Overview

This position assists in the examination and treatment of patients with bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias using cardiac device therapy. Performs interrogation and transtelephonic monitoring of pacemakers and defibrillators. Performs device testing and stimulation to ensure proper functionality. Notifies the provider of abnormalities in device function, patient compliance issues, arrhythmia, and may make recommendations about additions and changes to medication regiments or device programming. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide an excellent patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinic and administrative support to patients with cardiac devices. Under limited supervision, the cardiac device technologist assists with the development and function of the Cardiology Clinic. Performs basic prescribed standard non-invasive cardiovascular procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers' orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
  • Collects and/or reviews pertinent medical, historical, and medication information in order to perform the appropriate study prescribed by the provider as outlined by departmental policies and procedures. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
  • May assists in scheduling patients for device clinic or training, charge entry, and equipment maintenance as outlined by department policies and procedures. Must complete courses in EKG and 12 Lead.
  • Provide quarterly productivity reports to the Director of Cardiology. Keep up to date with software/hardware related to cardiac device, educate staff on cardiac device and concepts.
  • Provides clerical support with patient/client notifications and documentation, which may include completing medical records, labs, authorizations, imaging, hospital records, and any previous care pertaining to each patient visit. Provides complete and accurate information necessary for billing related to the patient encounter in a timely fashion. Other duties as assigned. 
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

    Qualifications

    • Requires the knowledge normally demonstrated with an associate’s degree in science, healthcare, or related field.
    • Requires clinical licensure applicable to area of practice.
    • Requires the clinical knowledge normally obtained with two (2) years of relevant experience.
    • Must demonstrate proficient cardiac rhythm interpretation and remote defibrillator and pacemaker monitoring.
    • FHP sponsored Cardiac Device Educational Program (i.e., Arrhythmia Technologists Institute or PrepMD) or equivalent education within twelve (12) months of hire/transfer.
    • Must demonstrate effective communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, independent practitioners, patients and other contacts.
    • BLS certification required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Certification in Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation, Medical Assisting and or nursing license preferred.
    • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
