Experience working with adults with substance use disorder(s) | 1 Year | Required Lived experience and a personal recovery story related to mental illness or substance use. | Required

  

Job Description Summary:

The Peer Support Specialist, Behavioral Health Urgent Care is primarily responsible for supporting people to achieve their personal goals while enhancing the development of their natural supports, as well as coping and self management skills. This position utilizes personal experience with mental health or substance abuse issues to assist others in achieving desired outcomes.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Share lived experience to support, encourage and enhance a person supported treatment and recovery, including possessing recovery-oriented skills and knowledge.

  • Model and mentor recovery values, attitudes, beliefs and personal actions to encourage wellness and resilience for a person supported and promote a recovery environment.

  • Explore with the individual supported the importance and creation of wellness identify through open sharing and challenging viewpoints.

  • Promote an individual’s opportunity for personal growth by identifying teachable moments for building relationship skills to empower the individual and enhance personal responsibility. 

  • Model and share examples of healthy social interactions and facilitate familiarity with, and connection to, the local community.

  • Participate in team meetings and provides input into the development of comprehensive crisis plans, including WRAP plan, identifying goals and areas of need and works with the individual to effectively use their plans.

  • Guides and encourages the individual to take responsibility for and actively participate in their own recovery.

  • Assist the individual with self-determination and decision-making while teaching and promoting self-advocacy. 

  • Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness and resilience through groups and while working with individual in the community.

  • Assist with crisis interventions as necessary

  • Assist in the development of relapse prevention and disease management strategies.

  • Communicates and documents encounters and contacts, including groups and individual contact to submit for billing, group notes and individual progress notes in the electronic health record.

  • Maintains positive working relationships with the communities served, including individuals, families, staff, monitoring and licensing agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Drive and travel as needed.  Provide transportation and/or arrange transportation for individuals.

  • Attend staff meetings and other required meetings.  Maintain all required training by attending and actively participating in meetings and all required trainings.

  • Maintain certification in all agency, state and federal training requirements.
