Responsibilities

The Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) provides patient-centered care and support to individuals throughout the Behavioral Health Services (BHS) system to assist with entry into care, support those in recovery to stay in recovery, and to assist those who are considering leaving treatment to ensure that any needs are promptly addressed to enable them to stay in care. NOTE: The Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) defines a peer as an individual who uses their knowledge acquired through lived experience related to substance use to support the recovery goals of individuals who use drugs and/or alcohol. Through a combination of lived experience and professional training, peers provide an array of face-to-face peer support services with individuals impacted by substance use disorders.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required. Evidence of successful completion of the 46 - hours of required training in advocacy, mentoring, and education, recovery and wellness, and ethical responsibilities. (This includes the Recovery Coach Academy (30 hours) and Ethics for Peer Recovery Professionals (16 hours).
