Overview

This position performs a variety of administrative tasks to support Day Habilitation Services and other special project related agency assignments. Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for recruiting, matching, and onboarding community volunteers that supports agency initiatives/grants. This position must use time management skills to manage and maintain varied tasks related to Community engagement and volunteer related services and special project completion. Local travel required.

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limted to:

  • Recruits community volunteer/partnerships to assist in mobilizing program related concepts in development, ensuring integrated experiences throughout operational hours, with an emphasis on one-to-one community volunteer opportunities.
  • Seeks to match community volunteers, fundraisers, tasks and timelines to assigned special projects for the benefit of agency programs and community events.
  • Performs administrative functions in developing resources, budgets, fundraising and timeframes for community volunteer and other segments of assigned projects in development.
  • Assists in volunteer match related to CQL personal and staff interest surveys.
  • Coordinates community volunteer placement and training including sending applications to prospective community volunteers, matching community volunteers to various program types, arranging for orientation and training, keeping community volunteer engagement records. Supports individual volunteer requests from Citizens, BCCS and the AHRC Foundation. Cross referrals to these organizations from existing volunteers is ideal.
  • Assists with development and maintenance of shared agency database of community volunteers including contact information, community volunteer interest, training, availability and other details and traits necessary for appropriate matching.
  • Arranges for community volunteer recruitment including keeping an up-to-date inventory of community volunteer needs on a department-by-department basis, printing and distributing recruitment materials, participating in community engagement events and recruitment fairs, and forums on volunteerism.
  • Coordinates bi-annual all agency volunteer recognition sub-committee for the express purpose of volunteer recognition and retention including coordinating logs of volunteer hours, arranging volunteer recognition activities, regularly visiting volunteers where they are involved.
  • Participates as a member of the WFAC Advisory Council, DEI Advocacy Ambassadors meetings, attends other meetings, community events at supervisors’ requests.
  • Provides direct supervision to agency Community Liaison.
  • Performs all other duties as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in human services preferred, Marketing, or related field required
  • Community engagement volunteer, non-profit and managerial experience preferred
  • Computer literate – MS Word, including merges, and MS Excel.
  • NYS Drivers’ License required, as well as ability to transport items to events in the community. (You must maintain a NYS Driver’s license and remain a qualified driver in accordance with the agency’s driver policy. If you currently maintain an out-of-state driver’s license; you must transfer your license to NYS within 30 days.)

The position involves primarily sedentary office work, including extended computer use for database management, administrative tasks, and record-keeping with tools like MS Word and Excel, requiring frequent sitting, keyboarding, and light lifting of materials up to 20 pounds. Occasional community travel is needed for recruitment events, volunteer site visits, meetings, and recognition activities, entailing standing, walking, and interaction in varied indoor/outdoor settings, potentially during evenings or weekends. The work environment is generally a standard office setting with moderate noise, and some evening or weekend hours may be needed for events.
