Job Title: ESL InstructorĀ 

Location: Labrador West, NLĀ 

Position Type: 1 full-time positionĀ until March 31,Ā 2027 with possibility of extension pending budget availability and satisfactory performanceĀ

Reporting to the ESL Coordinator, the ESL InstructorĀ is responsibleĀ forĀ providing ESL instructionĀ to clients who qualify for the service with the ANC.Ā Ā 

Ā 

Roles and Responsibilities:Ā 

Ā 

PlanningĀ Ā 

  • Prepare courses for delivery to clients according to approved curriculum and teaching methodologiesĀ 
  • Prepare and administer client needs assessments thatĀ identifyĀ individual or group needs for the purposes of planningĀ 

Ā 

InstructionalĀ Ā 

  • Instruct clients using a variety of modern teaching strategies, including:Ā Ā 
  • portfolio-based assessmentĀ 
  • task-based planning and instructionĀ 
  • individualized instructional planningĀ 
  • differentiation of curriculumĀ 
  • cooperative learningĀ 
  • technology integrationĀ Ā 
  • other strategies whereĀ requiredĀ

AssessmentĀ Ā 

  • Prepare and administer regular assessments, both formative and summative, according to the established guidelinesĀ 
  • Administer and grade assessments using Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test standardsĀ 

Ā 

AdministrationĀ Ā 

  • Prepare andĀ submitĀ progress and summary reportsĀ 
  • Maintain and report statistics for quarterly and annual reporting in compliance with the stakeholder agreementĀ 
  • Provide curriculum planning documentation upon requestĀ 
  • Participate in staff meetings, educationalĀ conferencesĀ and professional learningĀ 
  • Represent the Association, whenĀ required, on committees, boards and working groupsĀ 
  • Work with volunteers assigned to a client or the classroomĀ 
  • Complete other tasks related to the position as assignedĀ

Qualifications and Experience:Ā 

  • Bachelor of Education, TESL/TEFL Designation with a minimum of 1 year experience (relevant equivalencies and education may be considered)Ā 
  • Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) training and Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) training considered an asset but not essentialĀ 
  • Skilled in supporting new Canadians in a working environment promoting cultural awareness and sensitivity for a diverse client groupĀ 
  • Experience in ESL planning, delivery, and assessmentĀ 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility to address the changing needs of the environment and client groupĀ Ā 
  • Excellent communication skills - written and oralĀ 
  • Precise attention to detail in report writing and compliance requirementsĀ 
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of MS Office suite of programsĀ 
  • ProvenĀ utilizationĀ of technologies in the classroom for teaching and learningĀ

  • Legal authorization to work in CanadaĀ Ā 
  • Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)Ā 
  • Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland ConstabularyĀ
