KLS Earthworks & Environmental is seeking anĀ experienced Field SurveyorĀ to join our team, playing a critical role in supporting the success of our construction projects.
TheĀ Field SurveyorĀ is responsible for performingĀ surveying and layout servicesĀ on active construction sites to supportĀ earthworks, underground, and site development projects. This role requires a combination ofĀ technical surveying expertise, equipment operation, and collaboration with project teamsĀ to ensure accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, a safety-conscious attitude, and the ability to work in diverse field conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- PerformĀ conventional and GPS surveysĀ using a variety of survey equipment, includingĀ Topcon Total StationsĀ (includingĀ Robotic Total Stations), Commercial UAV andĀ advanced GNSS receivers.Ā
- ConductĀ topographic, construction layout, as-built, and volumetric surveys.
- CompleteĀ machine control support, including GNSS dozer calibration, troubleshooting, and data transfer.
- Collect and manage accurate survey data, ensuringĀ quality control and accuracy in all field measurements.
- ProvideĀ stakeout and layout servicesĀ for grading, excavation, and underground utilities installations.
- Reporting to the Survey Manager andĀ working closely withĀ project managers, foremen, equipment operators, and other site personnelĀ to ensureĀ layoutĀ work aligns with project requirements and design plans
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- Maintain accurate field notes and records, and assist in preparingĀ survey reports.
- Adhere toĀ KLS safety policiesĀ and actively participate inĀ site safety meetingsĀ andĀ hazard assessments.
- Work safely in all weather conditions and terrains, ensuringĀ effective communicationĀ with the site team to maintain a safe work environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- MinimumĀ 2 years of field surveying experienceĀ inĀ civil construction, earthworks, or environmental projects.
- Experience working withĀ Topcon Total StationsĀ (includingĀ Robotic Total Station) andĀ advanced GNSS receivers.
- Canadian Civil and Commercial UAV License considered an asset.
- Proficient withĀ 3D-MC2Ā and machine control systems.
- Experience withĀ GNSS dozer calibrationĀ and troubleshooting.
- StrongĀ data collection and management skillsĀ using survey software and data controllers.
- Proven experience working inĀ varied terrain and weather conditions.
- Safety-focused with the ability to effectively communicateĀ hazards, layouts, and plansĀ to site teams.
- ValidĀ Class 5 driverās licenseĀ with a clean driverās abstract.

Working Conditions
- Work primarily outdoors inĀ active construction sites, including exposure toĀ varying weather conditionsĀ (heat, cold, rain, snow).
- Physical work includingĀ walking on uneven terrain, climbing, bending, and lifting equipment.
- Travel to various project sites around Calgary and surrounding areas.
