Java Backend Developer
About this role
Job Description
This position is with Cincom Systems, a subsidiary of PartnerOne, and will be on the HeadSpin payroll.
ABOUT THE ROLEÂ
4-5 years of experience
Reports ToÂ
Head of Eloquence Product Engineering, Support & ServicesÂ
If you are a Java developer, with a Data & Performance focus, who likes to go beyond REST endpoints and DTOs, and you enjoy understanding how data really flows through a system, this role is for you.Â
You will work on a mature, production-proven platform where:Â
• Databases matterÂ
• SQL mattersÂ
• Performance mattersÂ
• Design decisions have visible, real-world impactÂ
This role exists following the retirement of a long-standing engineer with deep system knowledge. We are not looking for a like-for-like replacement, but for a sharp, curious developer who enjoys understanding complex systems and making them better.Â
You’ll be at the intersection of Java backend development and database engineering, with real ownership and room to grow.Â
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
Database & Data Access (Core Focus)Â
• Work directly with PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server (Oracle experience also welcome) • Design, analyze, and improve database schemas used by long lived applications • Write and optimize SQL queries for performance and scalabilityÂ
• Understand execution plans, indexes, locking, and transactionsÂ
• Investigate and solve real production performance issuesÂ
• Learn how large datasets behave under load and how to make them fasterÂ
• If you enjoy knowing why something is slow — not just that it’s slow — you’ll feel at home.Â
Java Backend DevelopmentÂ
• Develop backend services in Java using the Spring ecosystemÂ
• Use Hibernate / JPA with an understanding of their strengths and pitfallsÂ
• Decide when ORM is helpful and when SQL is the better toolÂ
• Work on a stable but evolving codebase where improvements are welcomeÂ
• Contribute to design discussions with a strong data-centric perspective.Â
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORÂ
Essential ExperienceÂ
You are likely a good fit if you:Â
• Are a strong Java backend developer
• Enjoy working close to the database, not just through abstractionsÂ
• Like understanding existing systems instead of rewriting everythingÂ
• Care about performance, correctness, and data modelingÂ
• Are comfortable working remotely with international colleaguesÂ
• Enjoy technical challenges that require thinking, not just implementing tickets.Â
Technical SkillsÂ
• Solid experience with JavaÂ
• Good knowledge of the Spring FrameworkÂ
• Hands-on experience with Hibernate and JPAÂ
• Strong interest in SQL and relational databasesÂ
• Experience with PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server (Oracle is a plus)Â
• Willingness to dive into performance tuning and data-heavy problems.Â
DesirableÂ
• Experience with data-intensive or performance-sensitive systemsÂ
• Exposure to the CCM (Customer Communications Management) domainÂ
• Experience evolving or maintaining long-running production systemsÂ
• Curiosity about how systems behave at scale.Â
THE CINCOM ELOQUENCE PLATFORMÂ
