Civil / Land Development Group Manager – North Carolina
At Benesch, we’re shaping the infrastructure that supports growing communities across North Carolina and the Southeast. We’re seeking an experienced Civil / Land Development Group Manager to lead and expand our North Carolina Civil Site practice from our Charlotte office.
This is more than a leadership role — it’s an opportunity to build a regional practice, influence strategic growth, strengthen client partnerships, and develop high-performing teams while delivering impactful projects for schools, hospitals, private developments, municipalities, local agencies, and DOTs.

Location
This full-time hybrid role is based in our Charlotte office, with in-office collaboration expected at least three days per week.
The Opportunity to Build and Lead
As Group Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for our North Carolina Civil / Land Development practice while helping shape divisional and regional growth throughout the Carolinas and Southeast.

Our North Carolina Division is proud to lead high-impact projects that demonstrate the depth and diversity of our expertise:
- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools – Ongoing School Projects – Strengthening educational infrastructure through long-term collaboration on new and renovated school facilities
- Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation – Various Projects – Designing and rehabilitating parks and community facilities that enhance quality of life across the county
- City of Raleigh – Neuse River Project – Advancing resilient infrastructure along the Neuse River to support sustainable community growth
- North Carolina State University – Cates West Development – Providing land development/ civil site engineering for a transformative campus expansion that supports NCSU’s academic and research mission
- New Hanover County – South College Road Multi-Use Path (MUP) – Enhancing connectivity and safety through innovative multimodal design solutions
- NCDOT I-40 CMGC – Delivering complex, high-value improvements along one of the state’s busiest corridors through innovative CMGC collaboration
Required Qualifications
- Professional Engineer licensure in North Carolina (or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 3 months)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- 15+ years of progressive civil engineering experience
- Significant experience leading civil site and land development projects for public and/or private sector clients
- Demonstrated success developing client relationships and winning new work
- Strong understanding of North Carolina regulatory agencies and permitting processes
- Expertise in project financial management, budgeting, QA/QC, and resource planning
- Experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams
