About the role

Crunchyroll is growing and evolving, presenting unique challenges and opportunities to support millions of anime fans worldwide. The Fan Experiences team provides seamless help to our partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring an exceptional experience for all Crunchyroll fans.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll work on architecting and developing critical consumer-facing applications at scale. You will own technical engagements and be the key driver in finding creative/innovative solutions that lead Crunchyroll’s experiences to the next level.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead projects that require close collaboration with other teams like Product, Engineering, Business Development, Program Management, and Marketing. You'll play a key role in improving existing operations, defining and commercializing new solutions, bridging product gaps, automating partner operations, and taking new initiatives from conception to successful deployment. You will lead and develop prototypes and an MVP for testing and deployment of new systems

In the role of Principal Software Engineer, you will report to the Senior Director, Fan Experiences. We are considering applicants for the location of Hyderabad, India.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience across large-scale distributed or cloud-native systems
  • Hands-on expertise with AWS or GCP, cloud-native architectures, serverless services, and distributed systems
  • Strong development experience in Node.js/TypeScript or similar languages
  • Ability to influence and lead technical direction across multiple teams without direct authority
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to shape engineering decisions across the organization

About the Team

The Fan Experiences team at Crunchyroll plays a pivotal role in enhancing and expanding our users' experiences. We collaborate extensively with a diverse network of partners to integrate, test, deploy, and improve the Crunchyroll streaming application, content discovery APIs, and billing integration APIs throughout the device lifecycle, using Crunchyroll tools and data. Our primary objective is to drive growth, open new acquisition channels, and optimize the scope and quality of our services. Situated at the intersection of technology and business, we are dedicated to continually delivering experiences that delight anime fans worldwide.
