What we need: 

Flex is looking for a backend engineer to join our core platform team. We want engineers with ideas (because they’ll definitely be heard on our small and tight-knit team) and ambition! Successful devs will feel comfortable in a startup environment and will be happy to work in a remote-first team with a lot of independence.

 

What you'll do

  • Design, implement and maintain our core service, such as Identity, Auth, Payment, Financial, Risk etc.
  • Scale out core platform to support business growth while maintaining performance and reliability 
  • Continuously improving our daily operations with automation, tooling, design evolution, observability etc.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • 2+ years of experience in software development or a related field
  • Strong experience with Java and Python
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB
  • Proactive working style with strong ownership
  • Experience in the payments domain; familiarity with the payment industry
  • Experience designing and developing fault-tolerant, scalable distributed systems
  • Experience with AWS cloud services, including ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, VPN, , S3, and RDS
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., AWS CLI, AWS CDK, Terraform)
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Adherence to engineering best practices, with the ability to propose and drive new improvements

Compensation

Flex takes a market-based approach to pay, and compensation may vary depending on your primary work location. Work locations are categorized into one of three tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be commensurate with their experience, qualifications, and Flex’s internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks.

Tier 1 (NYC/Bay Area, Los Angeles, Seattle)
$140,000$175,000 USD
Tier 2 (Austin, Washington D.C. Philadelphia, San Diego, Chicago, Atlanta)
$126,000$157,500 USD
Tier 3 (Salt Lake City, all other USA cities)
$119,000$148,750 USD

Offices

Roles posted in New York, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City are hybrid positions with on-site expectations of 2-3 days per week in our local offices. For candidates outside of these areas, you may be eligible for our relocation assistance program.
