About this role

About Helion

We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.

Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $1 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group as well as new investors SoftBank and Lightspeed to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). We are now operating Polaris, our next prototype on the path to the world's first fusion power plant.

This is a pivotal time to join Helion. You will tackle real-world challenges with a team that prizes urgency, rigor, ownership, and a commitment to delivering hard truths – values essential to achieving what no one has before. Together, we will change the future of energy, because the world can't wait.

What You Will Be Doing

You will work directly with the Electrical Engineering team to build, modify, debug, and sustain the low and high voltage electronics that enable Helion’s fusion machines to operate. You will support pulsed-energy drive systems, diagnostics, controls, and energy recovery hardware by hands-on assembly, wiring, instrumentation setup, and real-time troubleshooting in lab and production environments. You will be expected to independently execute complex bench-level work, identify hardware issues through measurement and observation, and partner with engineers to resolve problems quickly and safely in high-noise, high-field environments. You will report to our Production Manager at our Everett, WA facility.

You Will

  • Build, wire, and test PCBA and control systems used directly on fusion machines and supporting test infrastructure

  • Set up, configure, and operate test equipment and instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, pulse generators, and DAQ systems

  • Assemble and modify electrical subassemblies, harnesses, fixtures, and test components for PCBAs, pulse power electronics, and prototype systems

  • Independently troubleshoot electrical faults at the board, subassembly, and system level using schematics, measurements, and signal tracing

  • Inspect, repair, and rework electronics assemblies and PCBAs to IPC standards, while diagnosing root cause

  • Support bring-up, debug, and iteration of new hardware alongside engineers, including rapid changes and rework during development cycles

  • Maintain component inventories, lab organization, and equipment readiness to support continuous testing and build activity

  • Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of lab equipment

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in a research, fabrication, or test lab environment

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, interconnects, and wiring diagrams and apply them at the bench

  • Proven experience soldering, reflowing, reworking, and repairing PCBAs to IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721)
