We are seeking a Staff Power Systems Engineer to develop connection specifications between Electric Hydrogen's power systems and medium-voltage utility grids. In this role, you will manage all aspects of electrical installation design, including reviewing third-party EPC designs and performing internal design work. You will conduct power systems analyses using modeling and simulation software to evaluate real-world system characteristics, including load flow, short circuit performance, transient stability, harmonic behavior, active linear loads, and other operational characteristics. You will also play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient integration of Electric Hydrogen systems into utility and industrial power networks.

You will work onsite in San Jose, CA and report to the Director, Power Platform.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and optimize electrical power systems, components, equipment, networks, and associated control systems
  • Lead electrical installation and system integration design efforts, including utility interconnection, medium-voltage AC collection systems, high-current rectifier DC bussing, and microgrid architectures
  • Review and manage third-party EPC electrical designs while performing internal engineering and design activities
  • Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonic load flow, and frequency scan analyses
  • Select electrical components and equipment based on engineering specifications, performance requirements, and system needs
  • Analyze operating data and system performance to validate designs and identify opportunities for optimization
  • Develop innovative methodologies for the control and integration of diverse energy resources and electrical loads
  • Apply risk analysis techniques to evaluate power system failure modes and develop mitigation strategies to improve system reliability and safety
  • Evaluate electrical safety risks and mitigation measures in operations and maintenance environments, including short circuit performance, low-voltage and medium-voltage coordination, and arc flash hazards
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to other engineers on medium-sized and complex engineering projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and utility stakeholders to ensure successful project execution and grid integration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years of professional experience working with electrical power systems
  • Experience designing large industrial power systems within EPC environments, including petrochemical, oil and gas, renewable energy, or power generation projects
  • Experience with utility interconnection design and medium-voltage power distribution systems
  • Strong knowledge of power system protection analysis and implementation
  • Experience with medium-voltage systems, substation design, and SCADA systems
  • Field experience supporting power generation assets, including microgrids, energy storage systems, engines, turbines, renewable energy facilities, and utility distribution systems
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Demonstrated ability to independently execute complex engineering analyses and lead projects with minimal supervision
  • Experience using power system modeling and simulation software to evaluate system performance and operational characteristics

$200,000$235,000 USD

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.​
