About this role

Analytics Engineering Director

Join us in our mission to transform the way people shop and eat, where impact, innovation and growth drive everything we do. Our Analytics organisation sits at the heart of Deliveroo powering decision-making across product, commercial and operations through experimentation, causal inference and machine learning.

From optimising rider dispatch to personalising customer journeys and forecasting demand at scale, we turn complex data into measurable business impact.

We’re looking for an Analytics Engineering Director to join our team in London. In this role, you’ll define the long-term vision for how we model and govern data, ensuring our global teams have the high-quality foundations needed to drive mission-critical decisions at scale.

About Our Analytics Organisation

We have an outstanding analytics organisation, with a mission to enable the highest quality human and machine decision-making. We work throughout the company, in product, business and platform teams and are uniquely placed to use data to help make better decisions and improve data literacy across Deliveroo.

Analytics Engineering is a core pillar of our Analytics Organisation, alongside Data Science, with over 100 Analytics Engineers across the UK, Europe, India and the US.

Our Analytics Engineers are embedded directly within product and business domains, giving them clear context and ownership, while operating with common design principles and ways of working within each company.

We operate at significant scale and complexity. Our data platform processes hundreds of Terabytes per day and powers everything from self-serve analytics and experiments through to executive reporting and strategic planning.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be leading the Analytics Engineering team. This organisation is the foundation of our data ecosystem, bridging the gap between raw engineering outputs and actionable business insights. You'll lead a global team of experts dedicated to building scalable, high-quality data products that serve the entire business.

Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:

  • Define and execute the global vision and roadmap for analytics engineering, in particular evolving our data strategy to be AI first

  • Lead a high-performing organisation, managing globally to foster a culture of technical excellence, delivery, and continuous growth

  • Partner closely with senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and the Business to ensure analytics is embedded in every decision

  • Drive "Data as a Product", owning the evolution of our data models and semantic layer, ensuring teams can reliably self-serve from high-quality data products

  • Champion governance and guardrails, establishing rigorous standards for modelling, semantics, testing, and auditability to ensure our data products are trusted and reliable.

  • Maintain technical depth, staying hands-on enough to review SQL/data models, guide architectural decisions, and troubleshoot high-priority incidents when needed.

What You’ll Need to Thrive

Essential

  • Significant experience leading large, global analytics or data engineering organisations within complex, high-growth environments

  • Proven ability to define and execute long-term technical strategies across BI, data modelling, reporting, and the intersection of analytics and AI.

  • Deep technical credibility, with a strong command of SQL and experience with modern data architectures and technologies.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at the executive level and navigate organisational ambiguity with confidence.

  • A "metrics-first" mindset, with a focus on ensuring technical execution translates into measurable business impact.

  • A strong bias for action, with the ability to move quickly, deliver impact, and iterate based on feedback

Nice to Have

  • Experience building internal BI platforms or self-service ecosystems that empower non-technical users.

  • Familiarity with AI-forward analytics, such as AI-assisted querying or leveraging LLMs to improve data productivity.
