Team Overview

Coupang Eats is offering both food delivery and quick-commerce solutions to Korean customers. Additionally the food delivery experience is also available in the Japanese market. Within this space, the team is responsible for the search funnel for these 3 verticals. This encompasses all the different layers of search (retrieval, relevance, query understanding, ranking, etc.).

Search is a fast-growing area, and we are working to improve the quality of search to ensure that customers find the best dish, store or item for them. We use the state-of-the-art Machine Learning and Deep Learning technologies to ensure the best quality of search, and we are continuously innovating and building highly scalable systems to support the growing business and customer engagement.

Role Overview

As a Machine Learning Engineer for Search, you will be responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and improvement of the end-to-end search quality and systems. Since the scope ranges across all the search layers (retrieval, relevance query understanding, intent expression, ranking, etc.) there are a wide range of customer problems to resolve. This will  require designing and maintaining multiple foundational models. You will run experiments to validate in a controlled environment and launch any features and ranking improvements that would improve the customer experience.

What You Will Do

• Design, develop, operate, and improve the end-to-end Coupang Eats search system
• Build and implement machine learning models and foundational models across the search funnel
• Research, fine-tune, and apply LLM-based models to improve search quality
• Analyze large-scale datasets to discover meaningful features and improve model performance
• Design and analyze online experiments (e.g., A/B tests) to validate hypotheses
• Solve search-related problems across multiple business verticals in Korea and Japan
• Balance trade-offs between search quality, system stability, and scalability
• Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, product, and business teams

Document Return Policy

4. In preparation for a job applicant’s request for the return of hiring documents pursuant to the main sentence of paragraph 2 above, the Company shall retain the original hiring documents submitted by the job applicant for 180 days from the completion of the recruiting process. If no request is made until the end of this period, all his/her hiring documents will be destroyed immediately in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act.
5. The above paragraphs 1 - 4 shall only apply when the labor-related laws of Korea govern the application. They are otherwise not applicable.

직무 소개 

Coupang Eats Search & Discovery 팀의 Machine Learning Engineer는 고객이 원하는 음식, 매장, 아이템을 가장 빠르고 정확하게 발견할 수 있도록 검색 품질 전반을 책임집니다. 검색 퍼널의 전 레이어(retrieval, relevance, query understanding, intent expression, ranking 등)를 아우르며, 대규모 데이터와 최신 Machine Learning/Deep Learning 및 LLM 기술을 활용해 검색 시스템의 end-to-end 품질과 확장성을 지속적으로 고도화합니다. 또한 비즈니스 임팩트가 큰 문제를 정의하고 해결하며 여러 팀과 협업하며 Coupang Eats의 핵심 고객 경험을 혁신합니다.

업무 내용 

• Coupang Eats Search 시스템의 end-to-end 설계, 개발, 운영 및 고도화
• 검색 퍼널 전반에 걸친 Machine Learning 모델 및 foundational model 설계·구현
• 검색 품질 향상을 위한 LLM 기반 모델 연구, 튜닝 및 서비스 적용
• 대규모 데이터셋 분석을 통한 feature 발굴 및 모델 성능 개선

자격 요건 

• 대규모 데이터셋 기반 Machine Learning 모델을 개발하고 실제 프로덕션 환경에 배포한 경험을 3년 이상 보유하신 분 
• Python 또는 Java 언어를 능숙하게 활용한 개발 경험을 보유하신 분 
• 데이터 기반 접근을 통해 복잡한 문제를 해결한 검증된 성과를 보유하신 분 
• 빠르게 학습하고 주도적으로 문제를 식별하여 비즈니스 임팩트를 만들어내는 역량을 보유하신 분 
• 다양한 팀과 협업하며 기술적 의사결정에 기여한 경험을 보유하신 분

• Computer Science, Mathematics 또는 관련 전공 석사/박사 학위를 보유하신 분
