About this role

About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States.

Our mission is to restore America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors.

Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society.

We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.

Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

Simulation Software Engineer

We are seeking a Simulation Software Engineer to design and build high-fidelity simulators to perform critical physics and hardware system modeling. You will work closely with hardware, chemical, and electrical engineering teams to accelerate our testing and simulation capabilities and ensure results accurately reflect physical behavior. The successful candidate will play a central role in defining the architecture, implementation standards, and operational reliability of mission-critical simulation systems.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and own simulators for large, distributed systems with complex interactions, feedback loops, and failure modes.
  • Model system dynamics and control behavior across nominal and off-nominal operating conditions.
  • Build scalable infrastructure for high-volume simulation, scenario generation, and automated validation.
  • Define correctness criteria and validate simulation outputs against test and real-world data in partnership with systems and hardware teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience building simulators for complex, real-world systems.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python with experience handling large data flows.
  • Deep understanding of modeling distributed systems, control systems, or physical processes.
  • Experience validating simulations against empirical data or hardware-in-the-loop setups.
  • High standards for correctness, robustness, and engineering rigor.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience simulating industrial, aerospace, energy, or similarly complex systems (e.g., chemical plants, rockets, power grids).
  • Background in control theory, numerical methods, or systems modeling.
  • Experience running large-scale simulations for design validation or fault analysis.
  • Familiarity with performance optimization and parallel or distributed simulation.
  • Experience operating in high-stakes engineering environments where correctness is critical.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
