About this role

Overview

Utilize your passion for software quality and technical leadership to our Network Diagram team as a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET). In this role, you will own the delivery of complex features and services from design through deployment, while influencing key architectural and implementation decisions across multiple components. You’ll collaborate with a highly skilled team building advanced interactive network, schematic, and link analysis visualization software used to model some of the most intricate network hierarchies in the world, including electrical and telecommunications systems, within Esri’s ArcGIS platform for critical infrastructure design and management.

This opportunity will give you to solve challenging performance, scalability, and resilience problems while optimizing existing approaches for maintainability and efficiency. You will lead technical discussions in design reviews and architecture meetings, mentor peers on system design and best practices, and contribute to innovative functionality for ArcGIS - a premier GIS platform with decades of engineering excellence behind it.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Engineers to establish test plans, identify gaps in plans, and prioritize manual tests suited for automation
  • Create tests for functional, performance, scalability, and durability testing, using established coding guidelines and variable definitions
  • Design and develop automated regression test cases on software components through the API
  • Deploy and schedule tests to run daily and share test results in an easy-to-understand manner
  • Manage and refactor the suite of regression tests and results dashboards as needed
  • Perform rigorous and in-depth peer reviews of test code
  • Collaborate with Software Development Engineers to improve software quality by writing thorough tests and monitoring the testability of code
  • Measure test coverage and analyze regression test results
  • Conduct framework-level troubleshooting; analyze test failures and make necessary repairs
  • Define, implement, maintain, and document automated test frameworks
  • Advocate for quality throughout the software development process and advise on test optimization

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with programming proficiency in C#
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented programming concepts with the ability to influence design and implementation decisions across multiple components
  • Applied expertise in testing principles, including designing, executing, and optimizing complex test strategies for scalability, resilience, and maintainability
  • Proven experience with test automation frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver, Appium, JUnit, or CUnit, including ownership of automation architecture from design through deployment
  • Hands-on knowledge of deployment and CI/CD tools (such as Jenkins, Chef), with a focus on streamlining delivery pipelines and improving system reliability
  • Strong developer sensibilities in software design, refactoring, and authoring, with the ability to mentor peers on architectural thinking and system optimization
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex software issues involving performance, scalability, or integration challenges
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, GIS, or related field

Recommended Qualifications

  • Proven experience providing technical leadership in test automation strategy, framework design, and best practices, including mentoring team members and driving quality initiatives across the development lifecycle
  • Solid technical foundation in computer hardware and systems
  • Experience with graph and relational databases (SQL, Postgres, Oracle, Sap Hana and optimizing data models
  • Proficient with development tools such as Visual Studio and Git/TeamCity for collaborative, large-scale projects
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and online services, or other GIS platforms
  • Skilled in software testing tools (Appium, Coded UI, Selenium) and automation best practices
  • Strong grasp of object-oriented programming and design patterns for scalable, maintainable solutions
  • Proficient in Python for test automation and tooling
  • Applied knowledge of graph theory in solving complex data and network problems
  • Experienced in authoring clear, concise technical documentation for cross-team alignment
  • Master’s degree or PhD in computer science, engineering, GIS or related field
