Staff Software Engineer - Map Creator (Backend)
About this role
As a Staff Backend Software Engineer in Map Creator, you will be driving the development of backend services and data pipelines that underpin the construction of high-definition maps essential for our Autonomous Vehicles. You will be responsible for handling and maintaining mapping datasets, construction of semantic maps, setting the technical direction for efficient map data access, and mentoring the engineering team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design, and lead the implementation of scalable backend data pipeline for construction of high-definition maps.
- Define and implement engineering best practices, driving initiatives for code quality, maintainability, and scalability across the team.
- Drive performance optimization and scalability strategies to handle data growth and demands in machine learning pipelines.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers on the team and those from other specialties, fostering their growth and collaboration.
- Work cross-functionally with diverse teams and disciplines, influencing technical decisions and achieving ambitious, shared objectives.
What we're looking for:
- Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or related field.
- 5-8+ years of experience in backend development, with a track record of designing and delivering production-grade systems.
- Proficient in Python.
- Experience in computational geometry algorithms.
- Proven expertise in architecting and evolving RESTful API.
- Expertise in cloud infrastructure and technologies such as AWS and Kubernetes, including managing and optimizing production environments.
- Experience with CI tools such as Gitlab CI and utilizing source control tools such as Git.
Bonus points:
- Proficient in C# or C++.
- Experience with Postgres.
- Experience in big data tools and frameworks such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, Ray, or similar distributed processing technologies.
- Experience in geospatial tools and deep knowledge of GIS principles and large-scale map data processing.
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Proven technical leadership or mentorship experience, including guiding engineers and influencing technical direction.
