About The Role:

The Civil Project Engineer will be responsible for the management of design, including preparation of drawings and specifications and construction of civil engineering works, structures, and infrastructure (including buildings) for the Mingomba Mine Project. You will be responsible for input into the prefeasibility and feasibility stages of the project where input from the civil discipline is required. You will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of civil construction contracts and reviewing variations where applicable. You will be responsible for building and fostering a collaborative relationship with all stakeholders including consultants, peer reviewers and suppliers. 

You will join an outstanding team of geoscientists, data scientists, and software engineers. You will be a core part of the project teams, advancing the science and practice of exploration. You will help develop novel data collection and monitoring programs. 

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ensures that innovative civil/structural detailed designs are completed following good engineering practices and in accordance with the required standards and specifications, industry standards, and the relevant legislation (quality of design).
  • Provides design interface between disciplines.
  • Ensures (certified) design information received from vendors, contractors and consultants is accurate and interfaces with other designs.
  • Ensures effective (peer) review and approval of discipline design are completed.
  • Ensure continuous improvement, lessons learned, value engineering, fit for purpose, and the latest technologies are implemented.
  • Carries the responsibility for the engineering discipline sign-off.
  • Interfaces with internal and external design and drafting disciplines.
  • Provides discipline inputs for studies and proposals.
  • Provides engineering support to the site team.
  • Manages the mark-up and back draughting of redline drawings.
  • Manages and mentors subordinators if applicable.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have

  • A degree in Civil Engineering is essential
  • 10 years minimum experience in the design, construction projects
  • Proven track record of bringing projects in on time, within budget and client approval.
  • Strong understanding of technical issues in relation to civil engineering in a mine environment
  • Strong report and proposal writing skills.
  • Ability to review reports, carry out audits, manage people, technical teams and providing mentoring and training.

  • Registered with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Possess ability to analyze and understand complex technical information
  • Good leadership and motivational skills, with ability to get work done through others
