Engineering Manager (Hands-On)

Location: Atlanta, GA
Compensation: Competitive + benefits

About Us

Togetherwork provides integrated software and financial solutions to a wide range of communities and organizations including associations, camps, unions, fraternities and sororities, gyms, studios, religious organizations, and more.

Our platforms are mission-critical to how our customers operate, grow, and engage their members. We are focused on building scalable, reliable systems that directly impact our customers’ success.

About the Role

We are hiring a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers while actively contributing to system design and development.

This is a player-coach role. You will not be successful here if you prefer to stay at a high level. You are expected to be directly involved in architecture, technical decision-making, and coding.

You will partner closely with Product to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, while leading a team responsible for both maintaining existing systems and building new applications.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, driving performance and growth
  • Act as a technical leader, owning architecture and design decisions
  • Partner with Product to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Contribute directly to code and perform code reviews (primarily in .NET)
  • Design and optimize database solutions using SQL Server
  • Guide modernization of legacy PHP applications
  • Help architect and build new applications using modern technologies
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software

What You Bring

Required:

  • 5–10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams (not a first-time manager)
  • Strong, hands-on expertise in .NET (designing and building systems)
  • Strong experience with SQL Server, including data modeling and performance optimization
  • Experience translating product requirements into technical solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as both a technical leader and people leader

Preferred:

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
  • Experience with React or modern frontend frameworks
  • Exposure to PHP or legacy system modernization
  • Experience in B2B SaaS environments

What We’re Looking For

  • A hands-on technical leader, not a purely managerial profile
  • Someone who can own architecture and guide developers through execution
  • A strong communicator who can bridge Product and Engineering
  • A leader comfortable working across both legacy and modern systems

Compensation & Benefits

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options

  • 100% employer paid short and long term disability

  • Basic Life Insurance

  • 401(k) with 100% company match up to 4%

  • Flexible paid personal and vacation time built on mutual trust and accountability

  • 10 sick days annually

  • 10 company paid holidays

  • 6 weeks paid parental leave
