Data Center Subject Matter Expert (Power)

The SME will be an in-house expert for Power, and responsible for the critical operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers. This position reports to Director of Data Center Operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage projects to accommodate towards customers 100% uptime
  • Initiate projects for operational processes and procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of critical planned maintenance, that meets all EdgeConneX standards and procedures, by leveraging competent contractor/vendor resources with attention to quality
  • Ensures that the Director of Data Center Operations is fully informed and briefed on all critical planned and corrective work occurring in the data centers
  • Plans and implements customer-requested work in a timely manner. Ensures that the customer and Director of Data Center Operations are informed on the status and details of the work
  • In concert with the Director of Data Center Operations:
    • Plans work on critical 1-line equipment according to Planned Preventive Maintenance Schedule, including roadmap to be approved by Director of Data Center Operations and/or Nominated person in control of an electrical installation. (Dutch:” Installatieverantwoordelijke”)
    • Manages all testing of mission critical equipment on the sites according to EMEA/Global standards
    • Responsible for guidelines that all work being done by contractors/vendors is logged in EdgeConneX systems
    • Responsible for guidelines that all work being done by contractors/vendors is being done in accordance with the approved Method of Procedure
  • During normal working hours, responds to alarms, critical situations, and emergencies in a proper and timely manner. Responsible for communicating in a calm and clear manner and in accordance with the emergency response plan
  • Takes initiative to ensure that quality and efficiency standards are raised for all the equipment in the data centers. This includes finding ways to deliver cost savings to EdgeConneX without sacrificing quality
  • Administers in a correct and timely manner all changes due to projects in accordance with all process and procedures
  • Works effectively and efficiently with others inside the organization
  • In Emergencies, is responsible for the timely response to ensure safety and operational continuity on sites
  • Monitors multiple sites to ensure that safety standards are met

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Electrical in the Data center environment including transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS & STS units, RPP units, etc.
  • Strong communications, both written and verbal, in leading teams and coordinating with peers and other disciplines on driving projects/issues to closure
  • Commitment to organizational excellence and constant awareness to seek opportunities to improve processes/quality of deliverables
  • Superb ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/responsibilities
  • Superb ability to meet committed timelines, leveraging assistance/input from peers
  • Strong and effective team player in working with various disciplines and peer groups
  • Strong attention to detail

Experience/Education

  • Education level complied with by WEB level 4 (WEB = Dutch Adult and Vocational Training Act) with at least 10-years of experience or HBO (B-Sc./B-Eng.)
  • LV/HV authorized to switch Certificate (NEN3140-NEN3840)
  • Mechanical and/or Electrical training/education, with particular focus in Power
  • Safety for Operational Supervisors training (VCA and OSHA30)
  • Relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time within EMEA
