Surface Technology (ST) Engineering Lab Technician

The ST Lab Technician works with the Engineering team to develop and qualify surface enhancement processes including cleans, coatings and surface modification of ASM process tool chamber parts. These processes may use various chemicals, machines, and mechanical tools to meet the cleanliness and other specification requirements for the different chamber parts and components. This work will take place in a lab, chemical processing, mechanical processing and/or cleanroom environment(s). The ST Lab Technician follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Engineering Work Instructions (EWIs), design of experiment (DOE) plans and other quality processes needed to assist the ST Engineering team. The ST Lab Technician may also report and document process issues and equipment malfunctions, take corrective action and interact with Process Engineers to identify and resolve non-conformance processes and equipment operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist Engineering with:

  • Technical testing and experiments for developing new semiconductor part cleanings.
  • Collecting and compiling data on a variety of experiments.
  • Resolving a variety of process engineering issues (failure analysis, etc.).
  • Ensuring De-I water & UPW quality and reliable delivery, safe wastewater treatment and disposal as well as chemical bath maintenance and set-up.:
  • Process parts and components utilizing both chemical and mechanical cleaning methods.
  • Perform part receiving, wiping, scrubbing, masking, chemical processing, metrology tool operating, etching, blasting, coating, drying, baking, inspecting, packaging and other processes, as needed.
  • Equipment selection, installation, qualification, operation and/or training of lab infrastructure and/or metrology tools (CMM, profilometer, microscope, particle counter, and others as needed).
  • Adjust hardware/software parameters to troubleshoot issues or execute experiments.
  • Follow SOPs, EWI, DOEs and/or other processes.
  • Perform daily organization and upkeep of process area.
  • Handle (delivery, usage, and removal) hazardous chemicals correctly and safely, following all policies and directions for safe use of and proper disposal of hazardous chemicals.
  • Participation and adherence to safety program and completion of various trainings.
  • Maintain a high degree of safety and environmental awareness through the practice of safe work habits.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • OEM Platform and part knowledge preferred
  • Ability to handle repetitive work and provide fast turn-around on processing parts
  • Ability to take measurements and log data
  • Knowledgeable in most media/pressure combos for most Ra on most substrates
  • Self-starting individual with technical and hands-on skills
  • Good verbal and written communications
  • Computer literate, knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred
  • Must be able to wear work area gowning: chemical and mechanical PPE as well as proper cleanroom attire
  • Familiar with Cleanroom protocols, and advanced Micro contamination knowledge

Educational/Certification:

  • High School Diploma/GED or related field
  • Associates degree in a technical field or some college preferred

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3-year experience in high-tech or semiconductor parts cleaning and coating technologies
  • Media blast experience preferred
  • Quality Assurance experience preferred
  • Chemical processing hands-on experience preferred

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed primarily in a lab, wet chemical, mechanical, cleanroom and office environments
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment where applicable
  • Ability to talk on the phone and use a computer for extended periods of time may be required
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, and grasp
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to lift over 40 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to move arms, hands, and fingers
  • Required to have visual acuity to perform assigned tasks
  • Ability to stand/sit for sustained periods of time
  • Work with hazardous chemicals daily
  • Work in a cleanroom environment
  • Must be able to read and comprehend directions.
  • Must be able to hear and speak to communicate with co-workers.  Accommodations can be made for emergency alerts for any deaf employees.

Environmental Exposure:

  • Subject to frequent interruptions
  • Subject to elevated noise levels and vibrations
  • Subject to hazards including electrical current, moving mechanical parts, exposure to chemicals, and debris.
  • May involve exposure to moderate noise levels from printers, faxes, computers, etc.
  • Subject to occasional electromagnetic hazards (i.e. laser, X-ray, RF, UV, etc.)
