About this role

In a nutshell

At Picnic, we're revolutionising the way people buy groceries with our affordable and sustainable grocery service.  We do almost everything in-house, developing cutting-edge technologies and processes to ensure we continue to grow rapidly without missing a beat.

In all our customer-facing products, we use React. Our mobile application uses React Native, combined with our home-grown server-driven UI framework. We have ambitious plans to unify our mobile and web applications into a single platform. Quality is our top priority, so we use TypeScript across the board.

In this role you can expect to work with a wide range of technologies within the JavaScript ecosystem, across the full stack! Experience with React Native is not required, we’ll get you up to speed with that on the job.

Tricks of the trade

  • Impact: Help us bring the grocery shopping revolution to millions of customers. As a front-end engineer, you’ll contribute to a product that is central to our business and directly impacts how people shop every day.
  • Contribution: Work on our powerful server-driven UI framework at the heart of our app, powering the entire shopping experience, enabling rapid iteration, driving large-scale personalization with tailored content for each user, and empowering business teams to operate the store autonomously through real-time updates by operators and analysts without engineering involvement.
  • Growth: Learn to work with cross-functional teams across the entire business, get to work on increasingly challenging tasks and projects, and have ownership over your contributions
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with designers and product owners to create specifications for new features
  • Our Tech: React, React Native, TypeScript and RxJS, Redux, Styled Components, Jest, Storybook

We’re looking for

  • 2+ years of full-time software development, and have worked with React, React Native, Typescript, or similar JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience in shipping applications
  • A willingness and desire to work with a variety of technologies
  • Hands-on experience with (unit) testing
  • Enthusiasm to work with a variety of technologies and a problem-solving mindset
  • The confidence to transform business requirements into a technical plan
  • The willingness and flexibility to take feedback and learn from other developers
