Job Overview

We are currently seeking a skilled and confident Band 6 Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist to join the acute therapy team at West Middlesex University Hospital. This role is based primarily on the acute wards, with potential cross-cover to the stroke unit, supporting adults with complex medical needs.

The successful candidate will work autonomously within an acute caseload, delivering high-quality dysphagia assessment, management, and rehabilitation, alongside communication input as required. This opportunity is ideal for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist who is confident working in a fast-paced acute hospital environment and committed to delivering safe, patient-centred care.


Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with dysphagia and communication difficulties within acute medical wards.

  • Deliver dysphagia rehabilitation and provide evidence-based recommendations to ensure patient safety and effective care.

  • Manage an acute caseload independently, prioritising referrals and managing clinical risk appropriately.

  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, and discharge planning.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in line with HCPC and trust standards.

  • Provide education and guidance to patients, families, and ward staff regarding swallowing and communication needs.


Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

  • Dysphagia competency with experience working within adult acute hospital settings.

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound clinical judgement.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

Desirable:

  • Videofluoroscopy competency.

  • Tracheostomy competency.
