About this role

Imagine having the power to stress-test an entire power grid against a hurricane or thunderstorm before the clouds even gather. That is the reality we are creating at Neara.

We use advanced machine learning to create engineering-grade, physics enabled digital twins of electricity grids across four continents, this helps asset owners understand their biggest challenges and bring the most viable solutions to life across millions of kilometres of infrastructure.

By simulating extreme weather and structural stress at a network-wide scale, we empower the world’s largest utilities to pinpoint risks, optimise investments and build a more resilient global energy future.

Our team is a collection of brilliant minds who are fanatical about making a tangible difference in the real world, utilising AI and machine learning to accelerate everything from data classification to complex scenario analysis. We have built a special culture where innovation thrives because everyone owns the mission and we need smart, creative people to help us scale this impact to every corner of the globe.

We are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to be the technical expert for our most strategic enterprise customers. This role is a critical blend of technical consulting and hands-on software development. You will be embedded with our customers, designing and building custom, high-impact solutions on and integrated with the Neara platform to unlock new capabilities, automate complex workflows, and drive maximum business value.

You will be the primary technical architect responsible for the creation of tailored customer solutions, working directly with customer engineers and business stakeholders. You are a developer and consultant rolled into one: a proactive problem-solver with a knack for communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

What You Will Do:

  • Actively use the Neara SDK and our platform's APIs to develop custom solutions that extend the platform's functionality. This includes:

    • Building custom, high-impact features using the Neara SDK, which will involve writing code in Typescript/Javascript and our platform's declarative scripting language to automate project changes, integrate real-time third-party data, and manipulate the network model.

    • Developing custom visualizations, calculations, and advanced data analysis features.

    • Creating tailored user interface elements to simplify and automate complex user workflows.

    • Building robust integrations using our platform's APIs to synchronize project data with external enterprise systems.

  • Serve as the trusted deep technical advisor to customers, translating complex business needs into clear, actionable technical designs and implementation strategies.

  • Lead targeted, hands-on training and workshops focused on the Neara SDK, API, and best practices for custom solution development, ensuring customers can maintain and evolve the solutions you build.

  • Work closely with adjacent teams to identify emerging customer needs and strategic opportunities for leveraging custom development to fuel account growth.

  • Lead configuration, reporting, and data integration efforts to ensure the Neara platform is meticulously aligned with the customer's technical environment and strategic priorities.

Who You Are:

  • Experience as a Senior Software Engineer or Forward-Deployed Engineer building and delivering custom technical solutions for enterprise-level SaaS. Experience working with customers directly or in a consulting capacity is ideal.

  • Strong experience in TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, and Python; proficient with modern development tools including Git, Node, npm, and the terminal/command line.

  • Proven ability to rapidly understand and utilize proprietary SDKs and RESTful APIs (following the OpenAPI Specification) to build robust, integrated solutions.

  • Skilled in data analysis, integration, and building tailored tools (e.g., macros, data pipelines) to deliver maximum customer value.

  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to both engineers and executives, driving consensus and empowering customers.

What we offer:

  • A highly competitive compensation package, including a significant equity component, ensuring you directly benefit from the company's success and your impact on critical infrastructure.

  • The rare opportunity to work on a cutting-edge, 3D physics-enabled platform that is preventing disasters and shaping the future of resilient infrastructure.

  • This role is a direct path to becoming a highly sought-after technical leader, bridging software engineering, deep technical consulting, and solution architecture for enterprise customers.

  • You won't just use our platform; you'll shape its evolution by feeding real-world enterprise needs directly back into the product roadmap.

  • Enjoy flexible hours and working arrangements designed to help you do your best work from where you work best.
