Overview
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist this position will perform preparation packaging distribution, billing and inventory management of medication.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Communicates with pharmacists, nurses, patients, physician and other ancillary personnel. Resolves all problems within scope of technician responsibilities and duties and refers all problems outside of the scope to pharmacists.
- Supports pharmacy personnel. Runs fill list and fills patients' cassettes. Delivers and exchanges cassettes. Fills and exchanges stock medication trays. Returns to stock discharge meds and items left out, keeping pharmacy clean and neat. Restocks UD pick bins in dispensing area. Runs IV labels, fills IVS and delivers IVS. Processes charges and enters into computer. Files billing and pulls discharges. Enters patients orders into the computer. Fills department orders. Checks stock and reorders. Prints and distributes MARs. Enters TCU/SNF charges from the fill list and narcotic sheets. Answers phone and requests at the door.
- Coordinates the training of all new pharmacy technicians. Provides instruction so that within 4 to 6 weeks, new technicians are proficient in all technician responsibilities.

- Attends 75% of staff meetings or reads and initials minutes. Completes assigned work within shift.

- Verbal and written feedback from patients, family members/significant others, medical staff, visitors and co-workers indicates behavior conducive to positive guest relations.

- Consistently contributes to the team effort (e.g., assists co-workers when need is observed or upon request, offers constructive suggestions rather than complaints).
- Consistently displays cheerful and positive attitude.

- Completes annual safety updates within established time frames.
- Completes general and departmental orientation within established time frames.
- Attends 80% of in-service programs.
- Maintains licensure/certification as appropriate.
Performance Improvement
- Consistently strives to understand, anticipate and meet the needs, expectations and satisfaction levels of patients and other "customers". Errors, inefficiencies and inaccuracies are brought to management's attention with suggestions for improvement. Develops innovative solutions to departmental problems. Identifies and implements methods of controlling costs or generating revenue while providing maximum value to both the patient/customer and the hospital. Maximizes efficiency in all departmental operations. Measures progress against quality goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High school graduate and graduate of pharmacy technician course
- Minimum Experience: 2 yrs acute care
- Required Certification/Registration: Pharmacy tech certificate by CA Board of Pharmacy, BLS.
