Position SummaryNuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purpose; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physician to view.

Responsibilities

Essential Functionsβ€’ Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, andradiopharmacy functions as required. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also perform diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.β€’ Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care. β€’ Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures. β€’ Adheres to Baptist Health mission statements and strategic imperatives.β€’ Performs all nuclear medicine dynamic, static and functional procedures required by specific studies.β€’ Performs SPECT and SPECT CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.β€’ Performs PET imaging on a rotational basis as outlined in written procedures or directed by interpreting physician, as required.β€’ Performs all computer acquisition, and processing and documentation as required by procedure.β€’ Performs quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation as outlined by written procedure or manufactures guidelines.β€’ Orders and administers radiopharmaceuticals including positron emitters as required.β€’ Maintains records as outlined by the Alabama Department of Health, Radiation Control.β€’ Performs all safety checks as outlined by the Alabama Department of Health, Radiation Control.β€’ Performs venipuncture and evaluates IV access for the purpose of radiopharmaceutical and medication administration as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may alsoadminister contrast as required by guidelines or physician order.β€’ Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses and calculates exact patient dosages as required by law and maintains records of such.β€’ Assists in the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user.β€’ Participates in the corporate ALARA Radiation Safety Program.β€’ Ensures safety of all customers.β€’ Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and otherfederal, state, and local standards.β€’ Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies, department guidelines, and education requirements.Other Related Functionsβ€’ Participates in Process Improvement activities.β€’ May be required to work at any facility.β€’ Provides safe patient transport.β€’ Handles, disposes, and decontaminates radioactive materials, while maintaining records of such under the regulations of theAlabama Department of Health, Radiation Control. Maintains a working knowledge of all procedural changes and equipment updates.β€’ Demonstrates professional judgment and decision-making skills as required; solicits supervisory input as appropriate.β€’ Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the patient studies.β€’ Responsible for patient and family education of the studies being performed.β€’ Participates in ensuring compliance with applicable regulations including but not limited to OSHA, The Joint Commission, FDA,NRC, EPA, and the Alabama Department of Health.

Qualifications

Education/Trainingβ€’ Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Licensure/Certificationβ€’ Must meet ONE of the following in totality:β€’ Maintains current certification as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) –ORβ€’ Maintains current certification as an (ARRT) (N) American Registry of Radiology Technologists in Nuclear MedicineMust meet ALL of the following:β€’ Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.Experienceβ€’ None. Must have knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, procedures, and radiation safety.
