About this role

Overview

The Regional Facilities Director provides leadership and operational oversight for facility management activities across multiple hospitals, clinics, and support buildings within the health system. This role ensures safe, compliant, efficient, and cost‑effective operations of all physical plant systems in alignment with CMS Conditions of Participation, DNV NIAHO standards, Joint Commission (when applicable), NFPA codes, ASHRAE guidelines, FGI requirements, and state and local regulations.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

- Provide regional leadership for facility operations across multiple hospitals and off‑site locations.

- Develop, implement, and sustain standardized policies, procedures, and best practices across assigned facilities.

- Serve as a strategic advisor on facility condition, infrastructure risk, capital planning, and regulatory compliance.

- Mentor and support local facility directors, managers, and technical teams to drive a high‑performance culture.

 

Regulatory Compliance & Life Safety

- Ensure compliance with CMS CoPs, DNV Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety (LS) standards, Joint Commission standards (as applicable), NFPA codes, and all relevant state regulations.

- Lead and manage regional EOC program oversight, including structured EOC rounding, documentation, risk identification, and corrective action follow‑up.

- Coordinate survey preparedness and response for DNV, CMS validation surveys, fire marshal inspections, OSHA, and insurance audits.

- Serve as a regional subject matter expert for Life Safety Code, physical environment requirements, and regulatory expectations.

 

Operations & Maintenance

- Direct preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure reliable operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, fire alarm/suppression, emergency power, and other building systems.

- Ensure uptime, system reliability, and consistent operational performance across all assigned facilities.

- Establish regional performance metrics for work order management, response times, life safety device testing, and utility system performance.

 

EOC Program Management & Rounding (Regional)

- Lead and coordinate standardized EOC rounding processes across all assigned hospitals and clinics.

- Track findings, trends, and risk indicators; ensure timely corrective action and consistent documentation.

- Develop and deliver training and education for local facility teams on EOC standards and physical environment compliance.

- Partner with Safety, Nursing, Infection Prevention, Security, and Emergency Management teams to ensure a comprehensive, integrated EOC approach.

 

Capital Planning & Project Oversight

- Support development of regional capital plans and infrastructure renewal strategies.

- Provide oversight for renovation, construction, and infrastructure improvement projects, ensuring adherence to codes, budgets, schedules, and organizational standards.

- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).

 

Financial Management

- Manage operating and capital budgets across assigned facilities.

- Identify cost‑saving opportunities and drive efficient use of resources.

- Oversee vendor and contract performance for maintenance, inspections, utilities, and outsourced services.

 

Energy & Sustainability

- Support organizational sustainability goals through energy management, utility optimization, and conservation initiatives.

- Evaluate and implement energy‑efficient systems and building automation enhancements.

 

Emergency Preparedness

- Coordinate facility‑related emergency preparedness efforts regionally, including infrastructure support during drills and real events.

- Maintain operational readiness for utility failures, severe weather events, and other disruptions.

Qualifications

Education

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required;

 

Experience

- 10+ years of healthcare facilities management experience, including multi‑site or regional leadership responsibility.

- Strong knowledge of CMS, DNV, Joint Commission (as applicable), NFPA, and physical environment regulatory requirements.

 

Certifications (Preferred)

- CHFM, CHSP, CHEP, or equivalent professional credentials.

 

Working Conditions

- Frequent travel between regional facilities.

- On‑call availability for emergencies, critical failures, and urgent operational issues.
