Job Summary and Responsibilities
Registered Nurse - Medical Oncology
As our Medical Oncology Unit Registered Nurse, you will help a diverse inpatient population, including those undergoing cancer treatment and general medical patients, receive comprehensive, compassionate care to promote healing and restore optimal health. Every day you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care for acutely ill medical and oncology patients, focusing on their unique needs and comfort. You will be expected to supervise care according to policies, procedures, and the State Nurse Practice Act. To be successful in this role, you must be a dedicated and empathetic caregiver, eager to learn and grow your skills while adhering to established standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive inpatient nursing care for adult patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions, including those requiring medical oncology treatments, managing symptoms, and providing supportive care.
- Implement and manage individualized care plans, focusing on medication administration, symptom management, patient education, and prevention of complications for medical and oncology diagnoses.
- Perform ongoing assessments, monitor vital signs, interpret lab results, and adjust care based on patient response, swiftly recognizing and escalating changes in patient condition to the interdisciplinary team.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, oncologists, case managers, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care, timely discharge planning, and emotional support for patients and their families.
- Educate patients and their families thoroughly on their medical conditions, treatment plans, medication management, self-care techniques, and discharge instructions, empowering them for a safe and informed transition home or to other care settings.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient assessments, interventions, medications, and responses, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements for safe and effective patient care.
THIS JOB OFFERS BOTH AN INCENTIVE AND RELOCATION: We are offering a $25,000 Sign-On Bonus in addition to relocation to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.
Union Work Agreement:
Shift: 12 hour shifts. Rotating day/night
Weekend Rotation: every third weekend
Holiday Rotation: two holidays per year
On-Call Expectations: none
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Nursing Degree from an approved school of nursing
- NEW GRADS WELCOME
- LICENSURE Active Registered Nurse license in good standing with the North Dakota Board of Nursing or Active Registered Nurse license in a compact state
- Working knowledge of clinical skills in delivery of patient care for general medical and oncology patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within the orientation period and meets re-certification as required
- Good communication skills necessary for constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, and medical center staff
- Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors, and patients
