Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Special Care Nursery RN, you will provide care to critically ill neonates and preemies as young as 32 weeks gestation. The Special Care Nursery RN must be able to attend both low and high risk deliveries when needed and be able to assist with stabilization and transport of infants born prior to 32 weeks gestation. This position will also be responsible for delivering care to postpartum women and newborns on a rotating basis.  St.Michael Medical Center Special Care Nursery is Level II NICU.

  • Adheres to the department's and hospital's policies and procedures, including safety, risk management and regulatory standards. Keeps abreast of trends, developments and regulatory requirements impacting matters within designated scope of responsibility. 
  • Administers, oversees and documents the adminstration of medications (e.g., topically, orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously and intravenously) as ordered by the healchare practitioner and in accordance with hospital poilicy. 
  • Demonstrates competent professional practice and engages in opportunities for professional growth. Demonstrates self accountability to meet stated deadlines for all mandatory requirements 
  • Assess and cares for post-partum and newborn patients 
  • Identifies full-term infants at risk for complications and provides appropriate care to the full-term infant with complications

Job Requirements

Required

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing;
  • Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification. Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.

Preferred

  • One year of related work experience is preferred or completion of NICU / Mother/Baby Education Program after hire.
  • National Certification Corporation (NCC) certification Low Risk Neonatal or NICU preferred
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification completion within 6 months of date of hire.
