Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:
Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of tissue for the pathologist evaluation and diagnosis.
Job Requirements
In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:
Required Education and Experience:
- Opt 1: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program
- Opt 2: HS and 60 college/university semester hrs, with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.
- Opt 3: Associates degree with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.
- Opt 4: Will consider candidates with High School diploma and two or more years of experience in all areas of routine histology in lieu of academic credit/degree and/or certification
Preferred Education and Certifications:
- Associate degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician program
AND/OR
- Histotechnician certification, HT, by American Society of Clinical Pathology
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
