Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Patient Access Team Lead, you will spearhead the daily operations of our Patient Access (Admitting) Department, ensuring efficient, accurate, and patient-centered registration processes. You will be a key leader in staff development and training, fostering a high-performing team committed to departmental goals and regulatory compliance.
Every day you will coordinate staff assignments, manage workload distribution, and oversee the orientation and ongoing training of new and existing patient access staff. You will provide essential guidance and coaching, ensuring team members are proficient in all aspects of patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling.
To be successful in this role, you will possess a high school diploma or GED. You must have at least two years of business process experience in a hospital or medical clinic setting, specifically in areas such as Patient Access, Insurance Authorization, Patient Financial Services, Patient Accounting, or Patient Scheduling. Previous leadership experience is preferred.
- Plans and coordinates daily patient access staff assignments, distribution of workload and follow up on tasks to ensure completion.
- Conducts orientation and training of newly hired staff.
- Conducts staff continuing education and training. Provides guidance and coaching to ensure staff members are familiar and compliant with established departmental goals, safety and security practices and procedures and pertinent local, state and federal regulations
- Uses technical knowledge to support the Patient Access (Admitting) department management and staff to ensure consistent understanding of established operating practices
- Provides input to department supervisor/manager on staff performance.
- Notifies supervisor or manager of all employee relations issues as well as any other issues that may have the potential to impact the department.
Job Requirements
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years of experience in hospital or medical clinic business processes e.g. Patient Access, Insurance Authorization, Patient Financial Services, Patient Accounting, Patient Scheduling
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge and understanding of processes and systems related to registration and patient eligibility systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing providing excellent customer service
- Basic proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to effectively capture information and accurately enter the data into software applications
- Proficiency with patient registration computer applications
Preferred
- State of Arizona Notary Public obtained within 1 year of hire (NOTARY:AZ)
Previous leadership experience preferred
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred; Cerner strongly preferred
