The Work

The Boundary Protection Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining network security solutions that protect information systems from unauthorized access, intrusion, and threats. This role serves as a subject matter expert in boundary protection technologies and methods, contributing to the secure architecture of the client.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform boundary protection engineering duties consistent with the labor category and required certifications.
  • Maintain and apply required certifications (IAT/M Level III; PCNSE; SANS Intrusion In-Depth; Cisco Certified Network Professional) within the scope of assigned duties.
  • Support functions aligned to DCWF work roles (Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support Specialist; Cyber Defense Analyst; Network Operations Specialist; Security Architect; Information Systems Security Developer) as applicable.
  • Support IT (Cyberspace) and Cybersecurity-aligned activities as specified for the labor category.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Boundary Protection Engineer Senior:
    • Bachelor’s degree or approved equivalent experience.
    • IAT/M Level III, Palo Alto Network Security Engineer (PCNSE), SANS Intrusion In­ Depth, Cisco Certified Network Professional.
    • 6 years cyber and/or information technology duties and experience. This skill level typically performs all functional duties independently and may oversee the efforts of less senior staff and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
    • Active Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • Boundary Protection Engineer SME:
    • Master’s degree or approved equivalent experience.
    • IAT/M Level III, Palo Alto Network Security Engineer (PCNSE), SANS Intrusion In­ Depth, Cisco Certified Network Professional.
    • 8 years of cyber and/or information technology duties and experience. Provides strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to program and project staff.
    • Active Secret Security Clearance is required.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

Working Conditions

  • Professional office environment, with the ability to work onsite in the main office.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
