Short Description

Primary Psychologist Role

 

Clinical: The pediatric neuropsychologist is responsible for conducting comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations of children and adolescents with a wide range of developmental, medical, neurological, and psychiatric conditions. Core responsibilities include completing thorough intake interviews with caregivers, reviewing medical and educational records, selecting and administering developmentally appropriate standardized test batteries, and assessing domains such as intellectual functioning, attention, executive functioning, memory, language, visual-spatial skills, processing speed, academic achievement, and emotional and behavioral functioning. The neuropsychologist will integrate test findings with developmental history and medical context, formulate a diagnostic impression, and produces detailed and accessible written reports that include clear recommendations for treatment planning and school accommodations. A standard component of care includes conducting structured feedback sessions with caregivers to review results, provide psychoeducation, and discuss next steps.

In addition to direct clinical work, the pediatric neuropsychologists will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams that may include pediatricians, neurologists, developmental-behavioral specialists, therapists, and school personnel. They may provide consultation to educational teams, contribute to IEP or 504 planning, and advocate for appropriate academic supports. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate documentation in the medical record, coding and tracking testing and interpretation time appropriately, managing referral flow and caseload, and ensuring timely report turnaround. 

Supervision for training program: Participation in psychology training programs working with externs, pre-doctoral interns, and post-doctoral fellows.  Provide direct supervision for psychology interns and supervise shadowing opportunities for residents and medical students. Opportunity to mentor CMSRU medical students. 

 

Administration: Maintain timely, comprehensive clinical notes in EMR; administer, score and compile psychological reports for psychological assessment cases; maintain current NJ licensure; report to Chief of Psychiatry.  Participation in training and Grand Rounds.

Teaching: Consideration for academic appointment at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) based on academic, research and clinical experience. Meet requirements and fulfill teaching duties at the level of Assistant Professor; lecture for CMSRU courses; participate in supervision of medical students; presentations for cooperative programs within CUH (including departmental Grand Rounds) and outside of CUH.

Research: Child and adolescent behavioral health research, including initiation of new projects; participation in the procurement of internal and external grant-funding; professional presentations at local, regional and national conferences; publication on topics related to child and adolescent mental health research.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluations – including intake, testing, scoring, report writing and feedback session. 

• Assess and develop treatment recommendations for patients and families

• Identify ways to increase and support access for patients on the referral list • Develop presentations and provide trainings on pediatric neuropsychology to be shared throughout the healthcare system in informal and formal didactics (i.e. – Grand Rounds) • Participate in weekly didactics and group supervision with Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine teams.• Develop meaningful and effective relationships with leadership, including attending physicians, advance practice providers, and administrative leads. 

• Participate in on-going behavioral health research including, initiation of new projects, participation in procurement of internal and external grant-funding; professional presentations at local, regional and national conferences; publication on topics related to child and adolescent mental health research

Experience Required

Experience working within the area of neuropsychology with a child and adolescent population; post-doctoral training in neuropsychology with child and adolescent populations is preferred

Education Requirements

Doctoral Degree – Psychology (Psy.D.) or Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology

License/Certification Requirements

New Jersey Psychologist license. License eligible will be considered
