Job Summary

Hill York seeks a skilled HVAC Service Technician to perform inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This role requires a self-starter who enjoys working directly with customers, takes pride in delivering excellent service, and can independently diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control issues. The ideal candidate prioritizes safety in every aspect of their work, adhering to company protocols and industry standards to ensure the safe operation of all systems and equipment. Technicians will perform preventive maintenance and ensure systems operate efficiently, reliably, and safely across a variety of commercial environments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems for commercial and residential applications, ensuring optimal performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electronic, mechanical, and electrical components across a wide range of system types and sizes.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service, quality workmanship, safety, and communication with an adherence to project timelines.
  • Diagnose a wide range of service issues, source and install replacement parts, calibrate systems per manufacturer specifications, and clearly explain findings and solutions to customers.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating clearly, professionally, and respectfully with clients, ensuring a positive experience and fostering long-term customer relationships.
  • Service and install equipment such as chilled water systems, chillers, cooling towers, furnaces, packaged units, rooftop units, and split systems.
  • Work with a wide range of system sizes.
  • Perform work on systems from major manufacturers including Carrier, Liebert, McQuay, Trane, and York, amongst others.
  •  Coordinate with dispatch and travel to job sites within the service area, ensuring timely arrival and clear communication with customers regarding any delays.
  • Respond to after-hours and weekend emergency service calls on a rotating schedule.
  • Ensure vehicle is stocked with appropriate parts, tools, and safety equipment to support efficient service delivery.
  • Maintain company vehicle in clean, safe, and professional condition, including regular refueling, reporting mechanical issues, and completing vehicle inspections.
  • Complete all required documentation (in various systems) and pre-task plans thoroughly and accurately to ensure job readiness, safety compliance, and clear communication with team members and customers.
  • Document all installed equipment as needed, including make, model, serial number, fuel type, test measurements, photos, etc.
  • Maintain an accurate record of time spent on customer jobs, as well as any non-billable time.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for additional services, system upgrades, or maintenance agreements to support customer needs and business growth
  • Build and maintain professional, respectful relationships with internal teams—including dispatch, sales, and procurement—to support smooth coordination, clear communication, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry technologies and best practices.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Utilize multiple software applications and digital platforms to complete service documentation, access technical resources, communicate with team members, and support efficient workflow and customer service.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform physical activities required for the role, including standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, climbing stairs and ladders, balancing, and regularly lifting 50 lbs. or more.
  • Comfortable working in tight spaces, rooftops, heights, crawlspaces, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
  • Demonstrated high mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex HVAC systems and components.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally across a variety of audiences.
  • UA Apprenticeship or Tech-schools preferred
  • Preferred Certifications: Journeyman HVAC License: Master HVAC License, EPA, CFC Certification, Journeyman: Maintenance, Factory Training.
