Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

Responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries.

Responsibilities

Duties may include processing and analysis of primary blood and tissue samples for flow cytometry, PCR, sterile cell culture work with a focus on stem cells. The position involves additional responsibilities, such as gene editing, virus production, and biochemical readouts. The candidate should be motivated to participate in sample processing and analysis from preclinical modeling experiments. This position affords the motivated technician an opportunity to develop/utilize both tissue culture and molecular biology skills. The candidate must also be comfortable working with potentially infectious material and biosafety level 2+ techniques.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Research Technician I:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study.
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills.

Research Technician II:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in biological science.
  • Previous experience using primary B cells, Crispr-Cas9 editing and ELISA.
  • Experience with cell culture, multicolor flow cytometry, and/or molecular biology techniques e.g. quantitative PCR.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and oral) plus an ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Highly motivated, possess a high level of initiative and attention to details.
  • Capable of working independently on multiple projects in a team environment.
  • Knowledge or experience maintaining and ordering materials in addition to excellent record keeping skills.
  • Familiarity with computer programs including Microsoft Office, FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, and/or similar products.

Research Technician I: The hourly pay range for this position is from $23.33 to $33.21 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  

Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $27.01 to $38.45 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
