Overview

On larger jobs, may assist the lead estimator in quantity take-off and unit pricing for development of estimate deliverable.

Responsibilities

  • Leads detailed reviews of civil, architectural, and structural subcontractor’s budget pricing; obtains and presents unit pricing data
  • Outlines clarifications and qualifications within an estimate
  • Secures and contacts sources for cost estimates for all specialty items
  • Identifies indirect costs and General Condition items within estimate
  • Possess and applies knowledge of unit prices and the material/labor components
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing
  • Produces manpower estimates to coincide with construction estimate
  • Compiles complete estimate/bid package breakdown based on input from others
  • Establishes estimating protocols for specific types of documentation
  • Use of Gilbane’s Baseline estimating playbook and tools
  • May be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • 3–5 years estimating experience (MEP scopes—mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
    • Open to candidates from:
      • MEP subcontractors (strongly preferred)
      • MEP engineering firms
      • GC/CM firms (estimating or project engineer background with MEP exposure)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of On-Screen Take-off, Destini, and Site work software tools for take-offs
  • Ability to complete quantity takeoffs for assigned divisions or building components
  • Ability to obtain and scope trade contractor budget pricing proposals
  • Ability to provide qualifications and clarifications for items that were quantified 
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Understanding of Contract Document and Specifications
  • Knowledge of applying unit costs to quantity takeoff for discipline specific estimates
  • Ability to assist the estimating lead with the compilation of the estimating deliverables

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.

For (Insert State) this ranges from $95,000-$125,000 plus benefits and retirement program.
