About this role

The Space Rangers team are recruiting a Gameplay Engineer to join Splash Damage, at their onsite studio in Bromley!

Location: London, Bromley (on-site)

About Splash Damage:

Based near London, Splash Damage is one of the UK’s longest-running independent game development studios. For over two decades we’ve built team-based shooters that bring players together through cooperation, competition, and shared experiences. Our teams have contributed to some of the industry’s biggest franchises, including Batman, Halo, and Gears of War, as well as creating original titles such as Brink and Dirty Bomb.

Today the studio focuses on developing engaging multiplayer experiences in partnership
with leading publishers, while continuing to invest in both new projects and our existing
franchises, including the open-world survival game SCUM.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Members of the Gameplay programming team at the studio are responsible for implementing new and exciting gameplay features within a multiplayer environment. We work closely with other disciplines to help them realise their ideas through rapid prototyping and iterative agile development.

As a Gameplay Engineer, you will work within cross-functional teams to deliver features to a high level of quality. Through regular collaboration with design, animation, art, audio, UI, production, QA, and other engineering teams, you will help clarify requirements, implement features, gather feedback, and improve the player experience through rapid prototyping and iterative development.

You will work within cross-functional teams, owning tasks and features across a range of gameplay areas, balancing player-facing quality with technical robustness, and delivering features on-time and to a high level of quality.

We believe that constantly improving on our skills is an essential part of the job and incorporate this into our daily projects.

WHAT YOU'LL EXCEL AT:

  • Working with members of multiple disciplines to iteratively develop features that address and achieve the high-level goals of the game.

  • Working effectively in open and collaborative environments.

  • Employing a can-do attitude to solve difficult problems as part of an agile, fast-moving, and highly focused team.

  • Breaking down your work into measurable and achievable tasks.

  • Writing clear, maintainable, and portable code.

  • Communicating ideas, intent, trade-offs, and constraints to both technical and non-technical team members.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Professional development experience with real-time networked multiplayer games.

  • Professional Unreal Engine 5 development experience.

  • Strong practical knowledge of C++, with relevant professional experience.

  • Strong understanding of game-development related 3D maths principles.

  • Professional experience iteratively implementing gameplay features from inception to delivery.

  • The people skills and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical team members.

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to self-organise.

  • Experience working in one or more phases of game development, from feature design and implementation to bug-fixing and polish.

  • Experience with, or an appetite to explore what modern AI advances can bring to game development.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER:

Competitive Salary and Benefits Package: Your health and wellbeing is important to us, so we offer a variety of benefits including:

  • Enhanced Private Pension Scheme
