About this role

About Radiant

Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors that use existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.

About the Role

Radiant is seeking a talented Senior Electrical Engineer to own designs from requirements capture through operation. The candidate will be directly responsible for components of the nuclear microreactor control and measurement systems. The ideal candidate should be comfortable jumping from designing circuit boards to integration work interfacing with fault-tolerant, off-the-shelf hardware. This role requires collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams designing the nuclear reactor core, fluid heat transfer systems, and structures.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support the architecture, design, implementation, and testing of the microreactor electrical control systems.

  • Design and develop industrial electrical control hardware including schematics, wiring diagrams, harnessing, and integration assemblies.

  • Lead design of fault-tolerant and safety-critical electrical systems, emphasizing reliability, maintainability, and regulatory compliance.

  • Develop and review electrical interface designs between control systems, power equipment, and instrumentation.

  • Experience using electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, Zuken, or similar schematic and wiring design tools.

  • Experience designing, analyzing, and working safely with industrial power systems including 120 VAC, 208 VAC, and 480 VAC equipment, including applicable electrical safety practices.

  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals.

  • Experience specifying and integrating Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starters, and motor control centers (MCCs).

Desired Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience in electrical architecture make vs. buy trades.

  • Experience with Siemens NX.

  • Experience with PLCs, Twincat, structured text programming.

  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and testing.
