About this role

Overview

D421 Nuclear Quality Control Engineering is looking for a highly motivated Engineer. Individuals will provide support for new construction and maintenance and repair of post-delivery nuclear submarines.  

 

Principle duties include review of drawings/disclosures, specifications, and technical work documents to ensure identification of all required inspection/documentation requirements.  Other duties include leading investigations of quality deficiencies, assisting functional areas in resolution of problems and the development/maintenance of shipyard work procedures to provide specific inspection direction in the areas of welding, system mechanical joint connections, piping system cleanliness and completion inspections, nuclear material control, electrical and structural inspections. 

 

Candidate will be responsible for providing technical direction and oversight on quality initiatives, development of process improvements, reduction of cumbersome work practices, and new process development associated with VIRGINIA Class, COLUMBIA Class disclosure/drawing reviews, and support of EB and Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) teaming initiatives. This includes leading investigations of quality deficiencies and assisting functional areas in resolution of problems that may occur at any Electric Boat Site, NNS or a Supplier. Emergent issues may originate from any discipline, trade or supplier and will require a candidate to become familiar with new subjects and topics. 

 

Candidate will be involved in assessing product and process performance to identify quality defects, be knowledgeable about Quality Specifications and ensure products and processes comply with requirements, become proficient in causal analysis tools, implement and maintain systems that ensure adherence to quality standards, and work with various teams to achieve continuous improvement and prevent quality issues from recurring. Interface with Engineering, Operations, Nuclear Test, Inspection, and Customer Representatives will be expected.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering or related technical degree
  • 0-5 years of post graduate engineering experience
  • Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures 
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in MS Office Suite and Engineering Related Software 
  • Demonstrated ability to work individually, within a team, with other groups and with customers
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the DoD

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in structural, electrical, piping or mechanical systems, engineered quality control/assurance, and military specifications is desirable
  • Training/Experience in Casual Analysis / Finding Root Cause

Skills

Skills:

  • Knowledge of EB's electronic systems, nuclear processes, and familiarity with VIRGINIA/COLUMBIA Class design/build methodology
  • Knowledge in using NX/Teamcenter
  • Familiar with Integrated Product Development Environment (IPDE) tools and processes
  • Strong communication skills
