The Joinery Floor Supervisor reports to Training Centre Manager and is responsible for overseeing day-to-day activities within the joinery workshop in a training centre environment. This role involves supervising apprentices, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all tools and machinery, and supporting the delivery of a high‑quality training programme. The Supervisor acts as a key liaison between apprentices, instructors and management, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment and ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations.

The Joinery Floor Supervisor is based primarily on-site within the Training Centre’s workshop, working closely with apprentices and staff. This position may occasionally necessitate evening or weekend work to assist with ongoing supply to our projects.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations on the joinery workshop floor, ensuring activities are completed safely, efficiently and to required standards.
  • Support the delivery of high‑quality products and training outputs for projects across the Sisk business.
  • Monitor apprentice progress, provide guidance and constructive feedback, and assist in practical assessments.
  • Maintain equipment and workshop cleanliness, conducting regular safety checks and reporting maintenance requirements.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of training activities in alignment with curriculum requirements.
  • Sign off on‑the‑job phases in line with SOLAS apprenticeship requirements.
  • Enforce health and safety policies, carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards.
  • Organise materials, manage inventory and coordinate the ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Promote an inclusive, respectful and supportive learning environment that encourages teamwork and skill development.
  • Prepare progress reports and communicate apprentice achievements or any concerns to management.
  • Complete the required SOLAS on‑the‑job forms for apprentices, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.

Experience

Required
  • Demonstrated experience in joinery or carpentry, ideally within a workshop environment.
Desirable
  • Experience with computer‑aided drawing (CAD) software. 

Qualifications

  • QQI Level 6 Craft Certificate in Carpentry or Joinery
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Strong organisational and leadership abilities, with the capacity to support, guide and motivate apprentices
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements in a workshop setting
  • Ability to manage resources and coordinate multiple tasks efficiently
