Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Utility Designer is responsible for creating precise and detailed construction drawings and designs using AutoCAD and other relevant software. This role emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and adherence to safe working practices while ensuring compliance with company policies and ISO standards. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and draft construction drawings using Microstation(or other required software), ensuring they meet the required standards for approval by federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Canidate should have a strong understanding of Outside Plant Engineering and Facilities. Including fiber optic cable, copper cable, terminals, lite span systems 
  • Proficiency with:
    • vBuild
    • Canvans
    • IDDS
    • ICGS Web
    • Leis
  • Work with a team of drafters and designers under the supervision of a project manager to support the practice.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, ensuring projects meet ISO compliance requirements.
  • Strive to achieve or exceed the budgeted individual utilization target.
  • Complete all assigned tasks on time, within budget, and in accordance with the project scope.
  • Compare field data to base plans to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Collect necessary data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs, to support project needs.
  • Size and specify design requirements, ensuring all design aspects meet project and regulatory standards.
  • Complete other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in Microstation.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:

  • Understanding of drafting fundamentals is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite; Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and Google Earth are a plus.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

Valid Driver’s License
