About this role

Overview

Position OverviewLegacy Health offers an exciting growth opportunity to join a well-established team of collaborative and energetic Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs). This role provides the opportunity to practice across both Level III and Level IV NICU settings within the Legacy system. NNPs are integral to delivery attendance and the medical management of high-risk neonates and infants, including daily rounding on NNP service patients.

 

In addition to clinical care, the role includes telemedicine resuscitation coverage for Legacy Level I nursery sites and opportunities to contribute to non-clinical initiatives that support the highest standards of care for NICU patients and their families.

 

Level IV NICU – Randall Children’s HospitalThe Level IV, 45-bed NICU is located within Randall Children’s Hospital, a freestanding, nine-story pediatric facility. This unit provides comprehensive care supported by a full range of pediatric subspecialties, including cardiac and neurosurgical services, genetics, and ECMO. Care is delivered within a family-integrated model, supported by a dedicated pediatric transport team. Notably, this role does not require transport responsibilities.

 

Level III NICU – Legacy Salmon Creek Medical CenterThe Level III, 22-bed NICU at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center is a growing unit actively expanding its NNP team. Scheduling is flexible and evolving, with 12-, 16-, and 24-hour shift options available to support work-life balance and team coverage.

 

Scheduling & Practice ModelThis position is based in the Portland/Vancouver area and requires dual licensure in Oregon and Washington. NNPs rotate between both NICU sites, with frequency tailored to individual preferences while ensuring 24/7 coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays. A well-established self-scheduling model and structured holiday tracks contribute to provider satisfaction and balance.

Responsibilities

Patient Care Management:  The NNP’s work collaboratively with Neonatologists and pediatric subspecialists in the NICU as well as pediatricians and obstetricians in the Labor and Delivery and Family Birthing centers to guide the care of neonates and infants across the care continuum.  The NNP’s are able to practice in an autonomous role utilizing technical procedural skills as well as essential decision making in the care of these patients. 

 

Nursing Care Support:  The NNP team provide ongoing support to the nursing staff whether on the unit or through formal education opportunities.  The NNP’s are key leaders in patient care projects that support both nursing care and medical management.

 

Resuscitation: The NNP’s attend deliveries in person at each of the medical centers and via a telehealth support platform at the other level I nursery sites to provide a consistent high level of care for newborns throughout the Legacy system.  

 

Discharge Planning: The entire NICU team works to provide an integrated family care experience to enable families to care for their high-risk infants within the NICU setting and beyond.  The NICU values input from all members of the team including dedicated neonatal RT’s, consultants from dietary, OT/PT, lactation, as well as the core nursing, medical and leadership staff.

Qualifications

Education:

  • As required by licensure.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an NICU Staff Nurse, Level III preferred.

Licensure

  • Current applicable state RN license required.
  • National Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) required.
  • Current applicable state license as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Privileges (NNP-PP) required. 
  • Credentialed by Legacy Medical Staff for Category I and II privileges.
  • Completion of ECMO certification course preferred.
  • NRP certification from the American Heart Association.

Pay Range

USD $84.13 - USD $108.17 /Hr.
