The Role

We are looking for a Tech Lead to join our growing engineering team and guide the evolution of our backend systems as we scale. For us, this isn’t just about technical performance, but also supporting the internal human processes that will always power much of our product. You will work closely with Product, Operations, Customer Support, Growth and other functions to design and build out a reliable, performant, and secure platform for handling remittances across countries. As an early leader of the team, we hope you will also have a lot of impact on our team culture, processes and norms.

Taptap Send is a cross-platform mobile app developed with React Native and TypeScript, which talks to a backend service written in Kotlin and backed by a PostgreSQL database, all of which runs on AWS and is managed via Terraform and Ansible. This is a backend-focused role, but you will have plenty of opportunities to work on all parts of our tech stack.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of backend system architecture and implementation

  • Build performant and resilient data flows; keeping security in mind during every step

  • Work closely with product team to regularly ship working features

  • Work in an iterative fashion

  • Mentor and advise team members

  • Evaluate and deliver timeline estimates

  • Write tests as you code

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of professional experience architecting backend systems

  • 2+ years leading technical projects and/or technical teams

  • Proficiency with Kotlin

  • Proficiency with PostgreSQL

  • Proficiency with AWS: S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda, etc.

  • Experience implementing and managing elaborate integrations with third-party APIs

  • Experience working on systems that have real-world performance and reliability constraints

  • Experience with commercial cloud environments, preferably AWS

  • Experience developing software in a collaborative, multi-functional, and fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication and ability to manage conflicting priorities, setting expectations with stakeholders and be a driving force

Ideally:

  • Experience working with Infrastructure as Code technologies, like Terraform and Ansible

  • Experience with SRE or similar infrastructure work

  • Experience with Data Engineering concepts and workflows

  • High personal code/development standards (code review, unit testing, documentation, etc.)
