Job Responsibilities:

 

The MSN adjunct faculty member’s role is to facilitate effective learning in the classroom and/or practicum setting for Kettering College Division of Nursing MSN students. Teaching Responsibilities Adjunct Faculty teaching a nursing course are responsible for effective instruction of students, organization of course learning materials in a manner that facilitates student learning, student evaluation, and communication of student progress and grades in a timely fashion. The faculty member is expected to:

1. Support the mission, vision, and values of Kettering College and the Division of Nursing in all professional relationships.

2. Know and adhere to Kettering College and Division of Nursing policies and procedures.

3. Is a role model for professional behavior that supports Kettering College institutional values (Trustworthy, Innovative, Caring, Competent, and Collaborative).

4. Complete the Kettering College and Division of Nursing orientation processes for new employees as assigned.

5. Provision of a course syllabus in accordance with MSN program and Kettering College standardized syllabus formats.

6. Design, implement, and evaluate course learning activities based on adult learning theory pedagogy and evidencebased teaching approaches to meet students learning outcomes and promote student engagement.

7. Lead educational experiences in a fair, respectful, organized, and logical manner to facilitate student achievement of learning outcomes.

8. Develop and revise course content to incorporate current, best practice in nursing leadership.

9. Provide timely feedback to students regarding assignments, quizzes, exams, and other learning activities.

10. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to the MSN curriculum plan and keep abreast of changes and developments in area of expertise.

11. Supervise guest lecturers (as necessary) to ensure alignment with course learning outcomes.

12. Assist students personally or refer students who need additional learning support to Student Success as needed.

13. Respond to student and administration communication in a timely manner (within 48 hours).

14. Seek professional development opportunities and exhibit continuously improving outcomes.

15. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with emphasis on communication and relationship development with colleagues and students.

16. Exhibit a positive response to constructive criticism from leadership.

17. Meet professional obligations, such as office hours, deadlines, submission of required documents, student appointments, adjunct faculty workshops and updates.

18. Participate in departmental responsibilities including student advising, course/curriculum evaluation and revision, supervision of Capstone Projects, departmental meetings, and other duties as assigned.

19. Complete submission of student grades in accordance with department and College policies and procedures.

20. Complete the MSN course report within one week of the end of the semester for each course taught.

21. In courses with practicum hours, faculty are also expected to:

a. plan students’ practicum experiences and evaluate students’ performance in alignment with expected curriculum outcomes.

b. collaborate with and orient preceptor to ensure the preceptor is competent and prepared for the role.

 

This includes:

i. Facilitation of communication between the preceptor, student, and instructor. Division of Nursing

ii. Providing the preceptor with orientation information regarding the practicum experience and roles of the student, preceptor, and instructor.

iii. Being available to the preceptor and student for assistance and clarification via email at a minimum.

iv. Functioning as a resource in any issues surrounding the professional development of the student.

v. Objectively and subjectively evaluating the student’s performance, incorporating feedback from the preceptor.

 

 Job Requirements:

Doctoral degree in nursing (completed or in progress) preferred; graduate degree required.

Must hold an earned BSN from an approved and accredited institution and nursing program. If the bachelor’s degree is not in nursing, then the master’s degree or doctorate must be in nursing. If the bachelor’s degree is in nursing, the master’s degree may be, but is not required to be, in nursing.

• Experience: 

Required: A minimum of two (2) years of direct patient care experience.

A minimum of three (3) years of nursing leadership experience or demonstrated experience in the specialty area of nursing.

 Preferred: A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in a professional nursing program or completion of a post-baccalaureate course that includes practice in teaching nursing.

The ideal candidate has experience in online pedagogy and Quality Matters.

• Licensure: Current, valid, unencumbered, and unrestricted RN license in the state of Ohio (or multi-state compact license) required.
