NYTech’s College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks a Speech Pathologist, part time,  located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus.  The Speech/Language Pathology Service provides direct service to patients with communication and swallowing disorders.  

Responsibilities

Provide treatment of patients according to accepted standards of clinical practice and applicable insurance guidelines.

Evaluation of patients using accepted standard of clinical practice and assessment batteries appropriate to the patient’s diagnosis are administered.

Writes comprehensive speech, language, cognitive, voice and/or swallowing report that  are sent to the referring physician.  

Completes daily notes and progress reports in a timely manner.

Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Actively participates in the process of patient, family and staff education/counseling. 

Individuals with Parkinson’s disease are specifically treated with modification of Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) program or Speak Out! Program. Additional therapies include speech, language, cognitive linguistics, dysphagia and voice.

Attend clinical rounds, departmental meetings, and care plan meetings and reports patient status and progress in accordance with facility standards.

Maintains annual continuing education requirements for clinical practice.

Qualifications

Master's degree with a major in speech-language pathology.

Holds a certificate of clinical competence and licensure granted by the American Speech and Hearing Association

Required field of expertise in Neurological Rehabilitation; preferred expertise in Geriatric Rehabilitation.

A Health and Wellness Certification is preferred.

Must be competent in creating hand and wrist splints. Must be able to recommend and educate in the use of adaptive equipment for facilitation of activities in daily living.

CPR Certification is preferred.

A minimum of 3 years' experience is preferred.
