JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction, plans, directs, manages, coordinates, and supervises programs for the acquisition, utilization, maintenance, repair, and replacement of vehicle and equipment fleet for the Muckleshoot Tribe.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures customer satisfaction is top priority at all times and in all communications and interactions with all personnel.
  • Works cooperatively with all entities of the Tribe in the administration of assigned duties.
  • Coordinates with departments and programs to monitor the Tribe’s vehicle and equipment assets; makes recommendations to and receives feedback from departments and programs; promotes excellent customer service and accountability.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, supervises and evaluates the activities, and operations of the program; formulates, implements and evaluates goals, objectives and long-range plans; determines and establishes priorities.
  • Assist with development of policies; interprets and enforces policies and procedures; devises systems and methods to accomplish the work and monitor the results pertaining to the processing of vehicle and equipment purchase requests, acquisition, assignment, usage, operation, repair, preventative maintenance, fueling and replacement of Tribal vehicles.
  • Evaluates vehicle and equipment needs of varied users; assesses automotive market data; performs economic analysis; investigates vehicle buying or leasing or other options including the impact of technological developments to meet user needs; develops specifications and makes recommendations on the selection of vehicles and equipment required for Tribal transportation to provide public services.
  • Conducts utilization studies and evaluates the condition of the fleet on an ongoing basis; makes recommendations on the size and composition of the fleet and establishment of replacement criteria. Prepare specifications for vehicle and equipment purchase.
  • Maintains comprehensive preventative maintenance and repair program; maintains records and costs of repairs.
  • Plans, manages, oversees, and reports fleet cost controls. Reviews cost accounting reports to determine effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
  • Assists MIT program managers in developing specifications for vehicles purchased by MIT; arranges for the purchase and deliver of vehicles to all departments.
  • Insures that all vehicles purchased are licensed and registered.
  • Maintains a complete inventory of vehicles.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment within the MIT fleet.
  • Develops and administers the department’s budget in accordance with program goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates with contractors in providing contract services; solicits and collects bids for new vehicles; coordinates sale of vehicles no longer used by the Tribe.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities, which may include driving.

    EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    Required: Two-year degree, from an accredited college, in business, management, engineering, or a closely related field; three (3) years increasingly responsible fleet maintenance experience that includes a year of lead/supervisor experience. A combination of education and/or experience and/or training that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the essential tasks of the position may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

    Skilled in:  Written and verbal communication; operating standard office equipment, including personal computer and applicable software; supervising employees and/or contractors; project management; budget management; organization and time-management.

    Knowledge of: Principles and practices of management, organization, and supervision; business practices applicable to fleet management, including vehicle maintenance and inventory control; procurement practices and procedures; vehicle safety regulations and applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.

    Ability to:   Organize, implement and direct vehicle maintenance operations and activities; perform a full range of vehicle and equipment maintenance duties; supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff; develop cost estimates; maintain confidentiality; comply with applicable laws, ordinances, policies, and regulations; maintain professionalism; analyze and apply critical thinking, investigate alternatives, and apply solutions; work independently; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk; talk and hear; reach with hand and arms and/or grasp with fingers; bend, stoop, or climb while evaluating vehicles; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Continuously uses vision. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 30 lbs. May be exposed to inclement weather, moderate to loud noises, and moving mechanical parts.

    Must have a current and valid Washington State Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
