Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Telephone Operator, you will be a central figure in our communications hub, serving as the first point of contact for callers and guests alike, ensuring all inquiries are handled with efficiency, professionalism, and warmth. Every day, you will expertly manage a high volume of incoming calls, efficiently directing them to the appropriate individuals or departments, and meticulously relaying messages with accuracy and clarity. To be successful in this role, you will combine excellent verbal communication skills, a professional and courteous telephone manner, and exceptional organizational abilities to navigate a busy switchboard effectively.

  • Operate a telephone console.
  • Greet every caller with professionalism and with Hospital and operator's name. Make prompt and courteous replies to incoming calls. Give general information and direction to callers by phone.
  • Determine, through inquiry, the proper extension with which the call is to be connected and make the proper connection.
  • Route and receive messages. Page and relay messages using pagers and public address systems and portable pagers.
  • Monitor current patient roster and computer terminal. Maintain updated list of phone numbers as required.
  • Monitor fire alarm panel.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Two (2) years of recent experience with a telephone console system, preferably in a hospital environment

Preferred

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Demonstrated both written and verbal communication skills
