Overview
Lead Physicist, FT, Piedmont Columbus John B. Amos Cancer CenterProvides physics services related to the planning and delivery of therapeutic radiation treatment inaccordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription. Provides technical leadership including clinicalset-up expertise to radiation oncologists, dosimetrists and therapists. Performs quality assurance checksaccording to regulatory requirements and industry standards for all department equipment. Serves as amentor and team lead for staff medical physicists. Reports to the Manager for Radiation Physics.Responsibilities

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Five years of clinical experience as a medical physicist in a radiation therapy department.MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiation PhysicsAbility to be listed as an authorized user on the State of Georgia Radioactive Material LicensesParticipation in the American Board of Radiology Maintenance of Certification ProgramKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Works collaboratively with radiation oncologists, medical dosimetrists, and radiation therapists toprovide technical expertise for treatment programs in radiation oncology including, but not limitedto, external beam, brachytherapy, radiosurgery, and radiopharmaceutical programs.2. Performs quality assurance checks based on industry standards on all equipment including, butnot limited to, linear accelerators; CT scanners; treatment planning systems; and brachytherapysources and equipment per AAPM recommendations and regulatory requirements.3. Maintains documentation of all commissioning, acceptance, and quality assurance activities andprovides these documents for review.4. Maintains a high level of expertise in the use of the treatment planning and treatment deliveryhardware and software and performs routine quality assurance checks and peer reviews oftreatment plan quality.5. Performs physics chart checks during the course of care for patients under treatment; makesrecommendations for policy and procedure updates; provides oversight for the technical aspectsof the treatment delivery process.6. Provides staff in-services; radiation safety education; participates in the instruction of medicalphysics residents, dosimetry students, and radiation therapy students rotating through the clinic.7. Participates as an active member of medical physics and radiation oncology initiatives; attendsscheduled staff meetings; contributes positively to the growth of programs and services.Ā
