About this role

Position Summary

Odyssey has an exciting opportunity for a Journeyman Agile Software Engineer, supporting the Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Program AFLCMC/WIS Asymmetric Warfare Division. The engineer will perform systems integration responsibilities across research, development, production, lifecycle acquisition, and sustainment activities, ensuring seamless technical alignment across program phases.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to: 

  • Apply engineering principles in accordance with DoDD 5000‑series, AFMC, and AFLCMC Engineering Directorate policies to support SOF acquisition, development, and lifecycle engineering activities.
  • Perform technical evaluations of proposals, assess design impacts, analyze performance against requirements, and recommend design or cost‑reduction improvements.
  • Develop, document, and implement engineering projects, production process improvements, and system requirements documentation.
  • Support engineering reviews, panels, and technical justifications, using computer‑aided engineering tools where required.
  • Perform airworthiness determinations, including Military Flight Release (MFR) preparation, MACC development, and MIL‑HDBK‑516 compliance assessments.
  • Support modeling, simulation, and survivability analyses for SOF platform modifications, communicating risks and recommendations to the Government.
  • Translate DoD user requirements into system requirements and conduct mission and operational analyses to inform program direction.
  • Review system architectures, interoperability requirements, and design baselines, identifying risks and proposing solutions.
  • Review specifications, ICDs, and contractor‑submitted design documentation for compliance and technical adequacy.
  • Develop DoDAF products, Information Support Plans, feasibility studies, and state‑of‑the‑art assessments to support milestone and technical reviews.
  • Provide cost‑benefit assessments and technical evaluations of SOF program requirements in support of CDD/CPD development.
  • Support analysis of ongoing and planned modification projects, assessing OSS&E impacts and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in TIMs, design reviews, configuration boards, interoperability working groups, interface control working groups, and provide technical documentation summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Support source selections, including development of Acquisition Strategy Plans (ASPs), Instructions to Offerors (ITOs), and technical evaluation criteria.
  • Develop recommended engineering inputs for PWSs, RFPs, and CDRLs.
  • Support requirements development using DOORS and architecture modeling with IBM Rational System Architect (RSA), developing COAs and system architecture products.
  • Possess a minimum of two years of experience in software acquisition or development; Agile and DevSecOps experience highly desirable.
  • Experience with Team Awareness Kit (TAK) / Tactical Assault Kit software highly desirable.
  • Support software development, testing, integration, and fielding of applications, plugins, and updates.
  • Manage software development lifecycle activities, including design, implementation, integration, and maintenance across platforms, training systems, mission planning systems, and support equipment.
  • Review and assess software requirements, design descriptions, test plans, test reports, interface specifications, version descriptions, and related technical documentation.
  • Provide expert technical guidance on software development practices, systems integration, performance trades, software assurance, and cybersecurity considerations.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Clearance: Active Secret Clearance

Education/Experience: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in a related field and at least three years of experience in the respective technical / professional discipline being performed, three of which must be in the DoD; OR, seven years of directly related experience, five of which must be in the DoD.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the acquisition/development of software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering bachelor’s degree requirements are preferred to be from an American Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited institution.
  • Experience with Team Awareness Kit / Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) software is highly desirable.
  • Agile software development and/or DevSecOps experience is highly desirable.
  • DOORS, Cameo, SysML

 

Technical Skills

  • Systems engineering and requirements development 
  • Software development lifecycle expertise, including Agile/DevSecOps methods
  • OOP (C++, Java, C#)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines
