Actvities Driver Primary Responsibities

 

 

The primary purpose of this position is to provide transportation to and from the facility’s activity programs,physician’s appointments and outings. This also includes making deliveries and other transportation duties in the company mini van or small 10 passenger bus.

Responsibilities

Activities Driver Essential Functions

 

  • Providing resident transportation to and from the facility. This includes:
    • Loading and unloading residents into the transport vehicle and securing residents safely inside the vehicle.
    • Transporting residents to physician’s office, places designated by the Activities Department and other appointments as assigned. This includes making other deliveries as assigned.
    • Having a nursing assistant or licensed nurse accompany all residents that have any medical complexity, as determined by the DON or ADON.
    • Ensuring that a charged cell phone is available at all times during any bus operation and must not use the cell phone during the operation of the vehicle.
    • Ensuring that the resident LOA is signed by the nursing personnel or themselves.
    • Ensuring that all necessary paperwork accompanies the resident for appointments, keeping all resident information confidential and secure, and keeping track that none of the resident’s information is missing.
    • Reporting to the nurse once the resident returns to the facility and accurately recording transports.
    • Calling 911 immediately if any resident requires medical attention and then notifying the HFA and DON.
    • Reporting to appropriate Charge Nurse or designee any resident who lacks proper I.D.
    • Reporting any significant change in a resident’s condition or poor tolerance during transport to the Charge Nurse.
    • Displaying a pleasant, interested and positive approach to residents.
    • Being able to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
    • Retesting of driving skills annually, regardless of age or driving record.
    • Representing the facility in a professional and positive manner in dress and behavior at all times.
    • Maintaining the confidentiality of all residents and their care to ensure resident rights, privacy and property are protected at all times.
    • Reporting and documenting resident and/or visitor incidents, accidents, complaints or allegations according to the facility’s policy and procedure using the designated occurrence reporting system.
  • Complying with safety requirements, infection control measures, and maintaining a clean work environment in accordance with facility policy as indicated by:
    • Completing a pre-inspection of the bus and a post trip inspection of the bus, ensuring, among other things, that all residents and their belongings are removed from the bus.
    • Ensuring that a basic first aid kit is present on the vehicle.
    • Wearing a seat belt while the bus is operation; ensuring that seat belts are worn by all passengers and a companion (if present) at all times while the bus is operation; and ensuring that any passenger in a wheelchair is properly secured with OEM or OEM-equivalent four-point straps.
    • Reporting and logging a safety check list as determined by the Maintenance Supervisor and routine maintenance needs/repairs of the vehicle.
    • Notifying the HFA if there is any accident, damage or mechanical problems with the bus.
    • Ensuring that work/assignment areas are clean and records, files, etc., are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of work day, etc.
    • Abiding by all emergency protocols for crash carts, resident codes, fire safety, missing residents, tornado preparation, violent residents, Wander guard alarms, door alarms, and other facility policies as assigned;
    • Reporting any forms of abuse witnessed and aware of and taking appropriate action according to policy;
    • Following infection control and universal precautions procedures.
    • Following periodic cleaning schedules for equipment and returning equipment to proper area after use.
    • Ensuring the facility is maintained in a clean and sanitary manner at all times.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse, Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Must possess specific educational and experience requirements such as:All drivers must be over the age of 21 and have driven for three years or more.All drivers must possess a current, unencumbered driver’s license issued by the State.All drivers must have valid documentation of a safe driving history.All drivers must complete a basic first aid course.All drivers must complete a driving skills test, upon hire.Have a thorough understanding of the principles of growth and development for the entire life-span with theability to provide care appropriate for adult and geriatric patients as appropriate to the patient population.Must possess interpersonal skills such as:The ability to follow written and verbal instructions, function independently and make independentdecisions when circumstances warrant such action.Personal integrity and the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, governmentagencies and personnel.The ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.Judgment in prioritizing the performance of tasks, duties and responsibilities in accordance withestablished standards, policies and procedures. 
  • The ability to be discrete and protect the integrity of confidential information and stay within CorporateCompliance and HIPPA. Patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm and a willingness to handle residents based on whatevermaturity and physical level in which they are currently functioning.The ability to adhere to professional code of ethics.The ability to relate information concerning a resident’s condition to the appropriate staff members.Knowledge on the use of personal computers, e-mail accounts, software programs such as Word andExcel and minor office machines such as faxes and copiers
